Given that Steemit is decentralized people started to wonder how we would deal with spam, scams, and people who are harassing or ruining the experience of other users. This is where whales like @Steemcleaners came in to help prevent abuse and counter illegitimate/targeted down voting. Another great account, @Guard helps point out phishing links etc.
It is important to stay aware that with the massive increase of users, there is a huge increase of scammers and people trying to abuse and take advantage of the platform. It is very important to then report abuse to keep Steemit clean. This is partly on us as the users because it is decentralized to have some responsibility over keeping it clean.

More powerful accounts (Steemcleaners) will deal with flagging them given most minnows have little to no influence. However, if you aren’t a minnow please be sure to flag spams and scams to help keep the network clean!

Thanks for the links. So far I've only seem people send me messages about getting resteems and comments too. People have been respectful towards me and it's something I appreciate. I am vigilant at the same time and keep in mind what I learn about scammers so that I don'T fall into any traps.
As people always should! Yeah the @Guard bot is pretty nice it caught a phishing link on a comment on one of my posts very quickly

For @Guard it was actually automatic, but for @Steemcleaners and @Freezepeach you can report it on their discord, or for @Steemcleaners you can use the form that I mentioned :) Hopefully it should moderate automatically, but we need to give it some direction occasionally

You can actually make few STEEM each week if you support every spammer you come across. It's really a great thing for minnows.
lmao true, it's like front-running bots, but front-running spammers. What are your thoughts on mass following?
It's just a stupid waste. I see some people following me, spamming me and then unfollow when I call for @miti and report to steemcleaners and put a small flag (or 100% flag if the rep is high) No self respecting intelligent content creator would do follow for follow. So it'd be the stupid spammers who'd end up following each other. I think it's a waste. But I don't think of it as destructive like spamming or vote farming or the worst of all plagiarizing.
That's fair, for me I'm doing widespread following because I know my content will help out minnows. I know it's gray hat, but I'm only here to help. And my mistakes and triumphs will help others learn
I doubt the effectiveness of such a strategy. Great deal of accounts are either inactive/less active or spammers. At least try to have no more than 10 follows per each follower you have. Quality > Quantity. Only follow people who seems like valuable steemians.

P.S. If you or anyone you know has been a victim of @grumpycat please know that he has been harming people throughout Sōsharumedia (ソーシャルメディア). Stealing the service that I (and other bots) have provided them and hiding behind a facade of stopping bid bot abuse which he clearly has no interest in.
