Something smells fishy about @fzek62442nd3 's controversial post?steemCreated with Sketch.

An everyday example on steemit
Yesterday, the new user with the meaningful name @fzek62442nd3 was newly created and instantly wrote his (or her I don't know) first post.

Quality content: 0%
Spamming content: 100%

Here is the original content:!

Hello everyone on Steemit.
Thank you, please give me follows here.

Then he or she paid some upvote bots to promote the post.

Until here, nothing spectacular - things like this happen all the time on steemit.

What was not common is that some bots actually did what they promise to to do: the post was flagged and the votes were withdrawn. A perfect example of how it should work.

Later on, the writer of the post defended himself, showing which bots had been mean to him

Something smells fishy
However, something is not right about this whole episode. Indeed, it stinks like hell.

  1. The post was written very naive, as if it has been written by a user totally inexperienced on steemit. If you know your way around here only a little bit it was clear that your chance of being flagged was huge with this post.

  2. @fzek62442nd3 did not bought upvotes for this post in the range typical for such user - maybe 0.1 SBD - 5 SBD. No, in total 250 SBD were paid for this post - almost 500 USD.

  3. The money was paid directly from bittrex. This way, it is impossible to check out who this money comes from.
Would an inexperienced user do this?

  4. The user was not generated the usual way. Instead it was created by using the anonymous account creation service anonsteem. Why would an inexperienced user do this? And how would somebody as inexperienced as he or she seem to be know how to do this?

  5. The username seems to be completely useless. Why should somebody who plans to win followers chose such a name?

Everytihng has gone according to plan
My interpretation of this is the following:
What is happening now was exactly what the creator of this post intended. It went directly to the trending page and a discussion has started about quality of content and the behaviour of the upvote bots.

Who is behind this? What has been the intention to get this discussion started? One can only speculate...
What is your view?

All the best to you all,

rondras

poor guy lost a big portion of that $500.

I guess this was planned from the beginning. So no reason to feel sorry ;-)

why would anyone want to waste money like that is what made me curious.. still $500 is big money.. Well at least to me who can live 3 months with that amount.. so what's the point of wasting them? Maybe they are too rich? or maybe there could be some hidden agenda?

There is so much shady stuff going with upvote bots. Many people advertise that they pay more than they do, @minnowbooster blacklists people that use the service too often and steals your money. Also, when you use the www.minnowbooster.net there is a glitch where sometimes when you do the captcha right it sends the money but says "invalid captcha" and just steals the money with no upvote.

Yeah, @minnowsupport totally screwed me over on their upvote bot. I hardly ever used it, made 2 posts in about a month, and they banned me from using the bot. These were not low quality or lame posts. It was some original content. I'd been with that group since I started on SteemIt. I didn't interact with a whole lot of them, but I wasn't "abusing" their bot in any way shape or form. No messages, no warning, and nobody even bothered to talk to me about what was going on - wouldn't respond to messages on their Discord server. IDK what the deal was, but I left their discord server and have never looked back.

More and more it seems you have to go it alone, nobody much bothers to read any good content that you put out unless you spend a bunch of money to upvote yourself, using bots, etc. Then some whale will come along and trash you for giving yourself an upvote, as if your 1/10,000 portion of the rewards pool is hampering everyone else's gains.

After 10 or 11 months here, I think it's a great place to do social media on - just don't waste your time investing a bunch of money into powering up, unless you've got many thousands of dollars to pour into it. Even then, you'd just have to worry about not accidentally pissing off some larger whale who decides to start harassing you and trying to tell you how you should be voting with your own investment - as if it's somehow their "right" or responsibility to bend you to whatever their own agenda happens to be. It's a senseless thing. Trading and investing in the STEEM token is fine - but the problems can really begin if you power a bunch of it up and expect to make progress as a blogger. Established personalities on SteemIt seem not to want anyone new coming into their space and getting any significant portion of the rewards pool.

Whatever the OP here is about, this seemingly strange situation, is just another example of someone with too much time and money on their hands, trying to make some kind of a point about SteemIt. I think the whole downvoting thing needs to go away to improve the mood and new users' experience on this platform. I see a lot of flagging is really turning new people off to SteemIt.

I had not heard this before. Thank you for the information. I think the problem with the bots is that there is no real quality control. Some do not filter worthless content, others promise stuff they do not keep. But as of now you have to live with them as they are the only way to get a bigger audience.

It seem that only some post been noticed from doing something fishy but what about the one that always gave an upvote and make the post seem unnoticeable right after their vote? For example from this bot? person? @a-0-0 (-3)

I would say that this is a spam bot, which automatically follows every new user. The name is chosen so that it appears first in the follow list. the target is to get a re-follow. Then, the high number of followers is used to try selling resteem services.

They are capable of doing anything and I know there will be a risk to avoid them.

You are right. Some of the stuff you can see, about some other we can only speculate.

More drama
There aint enough popcorn in the world to deal with this 😁
On a more serious note, I am happy to see botowners stepping up, good example for many "newcomers" to come, shit does NOT get rewarded through the use of bots

I guess this might be one interpretation of why it is happening what is happening ;-)

It's fishy indeed though
Who is behind it? And why? We will probably never know, maybe that is exactly what this person is trying to prove?
Edit: there is some interesting upvotes on that shit for sure
2nd Edit: maybe it is to drain power from the downvoting camp ?

Interesting article - for all of the positives of Steemit, it does seem ripe for a grand sociological thesis/study regarding human behavior.

The nice thing is that the blockchain makes a lot of things visible. It might be anonymous, but that does not mean that it is not transparent.
