2500 Followers on Steemit Thank You!

in #steemit7 years ago

After just over a year of blogging our lives and our very true on the run adventures here on Steemit we’ve reached the milestone of 2500 followers and I feel it’s worth celebrating a little. So I’ll do a dab or three in celebration and ask you all to do the same, if you’ve got it.

When we started posting on Steemit we had no idea what it’d blossom into, we were mainly interested in telling our story and getting paid to do it. Living on our mountaintop in Acapulco, Mexico with no income and no money, we needed a way to support ourselves and we found that through Steemit. At that time we didn’t even have internet or a computer to post from.

And honestly this has blossomed into more than we thought.

I get asked all the time:

“How do you know what to post?”

You ever hear that metaphor about throwing shit at walls, seeing what sticks? That rule applies here and what shit sticks for one person will not stick for the next. I’ve found it does no use to try and copy what others are doing but I will say others can be a source of inspiration.

I had no idea that sunset pictures would do so much better than so many posts until I started sharing them and we really didn’t start sharing them until we invested in cameras.

I didn’t know I’d end up a food blogger out of this just posting the gringo food I make down in Mexico with Mexican ingredients but someone out there got a kick out of it and encouraged me to keep posting. This is why I put the effort that I do into food posts now.

I will say it helps having a wide range of interests to choose from as well as a compelling and true story to share. Our “on the run” label is not just a catch phrase, we’re still actively on the run from felony cannabis related charges in the United States. We could still be arrested and returned to face our charges, although the chances are much smaller than they would be if we were still in the United States.

We have a lot of people ask us why we’re public and we’ve explained to many the fact that it’s a calculated decision, one made long before we ever crossed. By sharing our story here on Steemit we allow all of you a pretty personal glimpse into our lives, sharing that we’re not criminals but people trying to live their lives. We share our struggles in a way to not point fingers because those who arrested us are not to blame, it’s a nationwide issue and that’s the point we’re trying to make. At this point we have a lot of people who really care about us and if we disappear, they’ll raise hell. That’s more than we had before.

And honestly I was thinking about it the other day and even if we’re arrested and sent back our lives and everything we’ve shared will still exist on Steemit even if we lose access to our account and are no longer able to post. No matter what all of what happened will still exist on the blockchain and we will still be able to share that with people to show them what we’ve been through. That’s amazing.

Life is about the risks we take and honestly we wouldn’t be here if we hadn’t learned to take risks. It’s a lifelong series of events to lead us both where we are now and while there are things we would change, there’s a lot we wouldn’t and the biggest is our decision to move to Mexico rather than face charges.

At the end of the day we’ve already helped many people by sharing our story and that was also the goal of it. We didn’t just want to support ourselves we also wanted to help others from making the same mistakes we have and honestly we’ve been told time and time again we’ve been able to help people make drastic but good changes in their lives. When I hear a young couple tell me they’ve been inspired to leave the United States with what small savings they have to try something new by us, it’s all worth it. I don’t want others to be faced with making that decision with their backs against the wall like we did.

If you’re considering getting out of the United States but have a list of reasons or excuses to stay, please read our story and reconsider the costs. There was a point where we had over 100 bitcoin in savings(it was worth a lot less, around 100 dollars a coin) but we didn’t feel it was enough and we stayed and subsequently lost everything trying to make things work as entrepreneurs in the United States. It ended with a near total loss of freedom.

To all the people who have recently contacted me about a future journey to Acapulco or somewhere else a little more free, good luck and safe travels.

To everyone who has followed us from the beginning, you know who you are, thank you for everything. You gave us the confidence to keep sharing.

To our new and newer followers, welcome and thanks for the support!

CONGRATULATIONS! indeed that is an accomplishment. I have found as many have that many do not follow on a regular basis, but it is good to reach that goal. You have regulars that will follow each post and perhaps a few quirky ones who will write poetry. Keep living the dream!

Yeah we often wonder what our true follower count is because we know many of our followers don't have an account here.
