๐Ÿ’ก Should You Set GOALS For Your Steemit Blog? Time To Be SMART! โœ…

in #steemit โ€ข 7 years ago (edited)

Forget about SquadGoals and RelationshipGoals... it's time to think about SteemitGoals. It seems strange for an average Joe to think about setting goals for a social network, right? I was inspired to write this by @stackin's post on his July goals. When I first arrived on Steemit, coming up to 3 weeks ago, I didn't have any kind of measurable goal. I was too busy being completely fascinated by this thing I never knew existed and trying to understand how it worked...

Obviously, social networks and blogging are primarily about having fun, being creative and socialising, but the crypto aspect of Steemit definitely makes me think that it is worth setting some goals in order to stay motivated and have a clear focus. I mean, even setting a goal as simple as making $10 a day on Steemit... after 1 year would be $3650, which considering I have been on Facebook for the past 10 years and never made a cent, seems pretty wonderful. ๐Ÿ’ฐ

What Kind of Goals Could I Set For My Steemit Account?

Goals are so personal that your Steemit goals will be different from my goals, and my goals will be different from my husbands goals. It completely depends how you want Steemit to fit in with the rest of your life. Outside of Steemit, one of my goals is to go back to university (I want to study Primary Education) as soon as I get my Permanent Residency here in Australia, which lets just say I have been waiting for for a while...

So it would be great if for now any Steem I earn from my posts and comments I Power Up and save for the future in the hope that it can make a contribution towards the cost of education. In order to be consistent and make sure I do that though, I'm going to have to be SMART about it...

1. Specific: ๐Ÿ’ญ By saying out loud that "I want money from my blog to go towards university fees." I have a clear goal I can work towards in the future.

2. Measurable:โœ… I work in customer-service but I also have some cross-selling involved in my job as well. I find that if I say to myself at the beginning of the month that I want to get $20 a day worth of sales, and I keep track of that each day, I finish with a decent payout at the end. If I don't set a trackable target I get to the end of the month and find that I haven't made as much as I would like.

Find an amount that suits you to focus on. Whether it is $5 a day, $10 a day or even $30 a week from Steemit. Track how well you are doing over the week and allow that to motivate you to get more involved in creating content, and upvoting and commenting on others posts. If you need help I suggest you check out this post by @trevonjb on how to make $20 a day on Steemit.

3. Attainable: ๐Ÿ€ I don't like setting unrealistic goals. It's like saying "I want to lose 10 kilos this month" and then feeling demotivated about whatever you did lose because it wasn't as good as the crazy goal you set for yourself. Some people have real killer goals, take @stackin for example, he set himself a goal of 2000 followers in a month, and he achieved it:

But you have to remember that some people who come to Steemit come from other areas of social media where they have experience and a huge following. There is no way that I would reach that number in 1 month, so for me I will set a goal of 550 followers :)

4. Relevant:๐Ÿ“Œ Make sure the goals that you set are going to help you achieve whatever overall goal you have for Steemit, depending on how it fits into your life.

5. Time Based: ๐Ÿ Setting yourself time parameters stops you from procrastinating and putting things off. So how many followers did you want to get this month? How many posts do you want to write this week? How many comments do you want to leave each day?

Have you guys already set yourselves Steemit Goals? What are they? Let me know in the comments!! ๐Ÿ˜

Absolutely amazing, i was already aiming at goals, and trying to make daly goals too but the last days i was a little busy ith the matrix life stuff * (steemit is the real life to me now XD) so now I'm trying to reset my daily goal, don't know why when i brake a routine i feel a little insecure to come back to it, like "what if my post will be not good enought?" or "what if I start writing about the wrong thing?". but te true is, nothing of this none of those fears really matters, i mean you just have to try without the fear of starting wrong, becouse it is better than not start, and also even if you do start wrong you will get instant feedback and you can adapt to a better way then.

lets accomplish or daily goals and in the long term or life goals !!!

Ps? you said your are waiting for you australian passaport which makes me wonder, where are you from ? lol

Hahaha love the meme @andyluy You are right! you shouldn't let those kind of insecurities hold you back from writing. If you write a post about a new topic and nobody likes it then that's life I suppose, it will happen to everyone :)
Haha! I like that Steemit is real life and the other world is the matrix :)
I am from the UK.... My husband is Brazilian but he has Australian Citizenship now so I have a spousal visa through him, but it takes a while to go from 'temporary' to 'permanent' resident, at which stage I will be able to pay domestic fees if I go to uni, at the moment I would still count as an International student which is way too expensive!

Lets go towards our dreams !!

change the "dream on" to steem on o/

"steem on, steem until your dream come true!"

hahah let's steem on towards our dreams!!!

Very nice post @hannahlicious. You're very right about setting goals. Funny enough I always set goals in my life but the thought of setting goals for Steem followers / earning etc hadn't even crossed my mind. But you are very right 10โ‚ฌ/ a day adds up quickly.
Thanks for that!!!

Thanks a lot @fitnessgirl :) Yeah for sure, little by little, as long as we stay motivated we can all achieve something with Steemit!!
Best of luck with achieving your goals :)

Hi @hannahlicious! This post is really helpful. Thanks for sharing.

hola @chicosonico thank you for reading!! :)

@hannahlicious thank you a lot for sharing this with us.
I have some goals in my mind, but I have never wrote them or shared with somebody. I am sure that some of them I have already forgotten.

So, I will sit down tonight and write goals for the future. I will set a targets of followers, steem power and payout per day so I can control myself.

You inspired me!
PS: Upvoted with 5$. Hope you will make enough money for paying scholarship.

aw thanks @cryptogirl1... yeah I forget things too if I don't write them down... an idea pops into my head and then later it will disappear haha :)

Best of luck with all your goals! :)

Thank you.

Setting goals is very good in every aspect of life but when it comes to steemit, it's a little bit different. Here, people who already have a fan base from another social platform grow rapidly. For a new user, Steemit is like a gamble, it's what I feel, no matter how hard you work your growth will depend on your luck somehow. I have seen many people who are trying very hard just to provide quality content on this platform but even after that, they don't even recieve a cent for the same. Infact, people who post some bullshit gets a lot of upvotes on their post.
So, setting goals are realistic approach but if you want to achieve success on steemit then you have to have patience first, then you have to post about something you're passionate about and it must be interesting.

Anyways thanks for your article and it's to have you here. @hannahlicious

Yeah patience is definitely key. And I can see what you mean about luck being a part of it, I think luck and dedication will play a big part. :)
I think thats why setting realistic goals are super important, if you are currently making 10 cents per post, you want to try and get up to 1 or 2 dollars. But also if someone is only making 10 cents per post, they should check out things like minnow support, randowhale and maybe get in the chat more to meet other people and start building up a social network of people who will in turn check out their posts. :)
Thanks a lot @cryptonet, hope you have a great day!

Thought provoking article... I joined Steemit just to check it out.. no goals, no expectations. But, after being here for a fortnight, it is no longer a place to visit occasionally, I find it's a place to actually pull your sleeves up and hang out doing meaningful work. Thanks for the post, @hannahlicious. I enjoyed reading it. I'm going to set myself some goals now. :)

Thanks a lot @sandzat yeah Steemit is awesome, definitely a place to come and visit on a regular basis :)
That's great that you are going to set some goals now, best of luck in achieving them :)

Thanks @hannahlicious, I just got started. :)
Actually, if you are interested, I've started a series of contests. Please check it out. I'll be happy if you would participate. :)

I think it's a great idea to set goals on Steemit. I told myself I would like to earn at least 5 Steem per day. The way I see it, Steem should reach a price of $100 some day, so by powering up 5 Steem on a daily basis, I've potentially contributed $500 each day toward my goal of being debt-free and self-employed. You have a good perspective - I like it!
