Stop Wasting Your Money
On Random Things.
Buy STEEM Instead!

Steemit is an investment: an allocation of money in anticipation of some future benefit. To use the platform properly, learn how to buy STEEM and power it up. Don't just be a Steemit leech-barnacle that expects to get upvoted without doing your part for the platform!

(Obligatory disclaimer: I am not a financial advisor;
this is not financial advice blah blah blah...)

But Dan, I don't have any money to buy STEEM with!

What about the $5 you just spent on that Big Mac when you could've budgeted it buying and cooking your own food? What about the $15 you just spent going to the movies and buying popcorn? What about the $10 you just spent on booze? What about the $20 you just spent going out to eat? What about the $20 a month you spend on TV service when you could just watch YouTube for free?

There's no excuse, everyone has some money to put into STEEM if they truly believe in the platform. In my experience most people waste a large portion of their income, no matter its size. But most people are still under the assumption that Steemit should be paying them! I am amazed to see users that have been on Steemit since 2016 that still don't understand the mechanics of the platform. They had the chance to buy STEEM when it was as low as $0.10! Let's keep this as simple as possible and look at a few convincing reasons to buy and power up STEEM:

Benefit One: Increased Upvote Value

This is a very important aspect, as most users of the site tend to take you more seriously in proportion to your upvote strength. It shows you care about Steemit and are willing to "put your money where your mouth is." It helps you reward other quality content creators on the site. As well, it is socially acceptable to upvote your own posts to reward your hard work, so you are accelerating your own growth on the platform. It is also a lot easier to increase and maintain a follower base if you can actually reward them.

Benefit Two: Increased STEEM Value

The more people buy and power up STEEM, the more the supply of liquid STEEM decreases, which (theoretically) increases the value of STEEM more and more. This, in turn, increases payouts as far as SBD is concerned. I pay a lot of attention to users' behavior via their wallets, and I am not likely to support users that I see constantly powering down and selling their STEEM. Many whales and dolphins feel the same way and see this behavior as selfish and short-sighted.

Benefit Three: Increased Curation Rewards

The curation formula definitely favors accounts with a higher stake weight. Whales are able to make a quite decent (semi-passive) income from curating content. Also, you increase your influence over what type of content is successful on Steemit. Want to change what you see in Hot or Trending? Again, put your money where your mouth is and take action, instead of whining and complaining about it!

Benefit Four: Increased Satisfaction & Responsibility

Instead of buying random, unnecessary things that provide instant gratification but don't increase quality of life or long-term stability of finances, put your money into something that is forward-thinking and offers longer-term solutions. In every investment, there is an element of risk, and you should accept the possibility that you could lose everything.

However, you should also be aware of what you stand to gain! I have seen quite convincing articles regarding the potential consequences of widespread adoption of the STEEM blockchain. It could potentially push the price of STEEM VERY high. We are talking in the thousands of dollars, eventually! By becoming an early adopter and speculating on this type of scenario, you are making a more responsible decision than squandering your finances on quick conveniences due to laziness and lack of vision.

Benefit Five: Increased Productivity & Engagement

One of the issues with the Steemit platform is its low user retention rate and low number of daily active accounts. Recently, the active daily users pushed above 30,000 but this is still extremely low compared to Facebook and others that have millions of active daily users! When you buy and power up STEEM, it will encourage you to increase your productivity, work ethic, and engagement on the site. You become part of the solution instead of the amoebic mass that pulls Steemit down by its lack of activity. I promise it will do wonders in making you more prolific in your area of work, whether it is creative, technical, or both.

These are just a few benefits of buying and powering up STEEM. I know I left out many other good points! Mention them in the comments section below. Great contributions to the discussion will be rewarded with upvotes ;)

Hey @d-pend, I totally agree! I only do voluntary work which makes it hard for me to invest in Steem without borrowing. So what I have done is cut all other costs. Now I only have to get enough for rent and I'm good...

So this results in a lot of free time which I spend here contributing, as well as promoting the Steem blockchain! Every new user is extremely valuable and I focus mainly on my existing network as the potential synergistic effects are even higher.

It's a pleasure embarking on this great journey with you @d-pend!

Sverige_reko

Right on! Thanks for your contributions and the pleasure is certainly mutual :)

All great points. Another benefit is that it is still in its infancy. While those of us who just joined recently may envy those who joined a year ago, we are still pretty close to the ground floor. I'm so thankful to have already been part of the platform when SMTs were announced. I'm looking to up my investment and influence before it gets fully implemented. I think it's going to be great.

Yes!! I totally agree. Imagine how it's going to be when the user interface and apps, etc. are really sleek and convenient looking. As well, once there are super easy/ instant ways to buy crypto with fiat without long waiting periods and hassles. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it plays out! Thanks for your input @moeknows :)

No problem. The thing that excites me about the SMTs is that it (1) will increase the value of Steem and (2) will make the developement of steemit.com somewhat less of an issue. If you are a Reddit lover and like the idea of steemit but are annoyed by the user interface and general functionality of the website, you could have the best of both worlds once. Reddit establishes their SMTs. Even if the current steemians choose to stay, we will benefit from a greater demand for Steem.

Yeah that's a great point. Really exciting stuff, worth enduring beta version frustrations imo!

Thank you for raising more awareness about this @d-pend, reducing the % of liquid steem is what can differentiate the steem blockchain of all others. It is actively used and most of the money would come from the users who believe in it by using it, not from the crazy class of crypto investors who love to pump, dump and are full of fear and tweet-influence creating the well known volatility and uncertainty. Nice post, I hope it gets seen and will lead to some 'Walk your talk' behaviour.

ideally, coinbase and or kraken would have, after a 6 weeks of haggling, ok'd me to buy bitcoin or anything out of my credit union. but to this point, im still waiting for them to verify my drivers license. two weeks with no word. the IRS refund gets to me quicker. so its not the will... its the way.

Wow... 😳 geez. That seems pretty ridiculous. I think it only took them about five days to approve my account, but that was a year ago. There is definitely a long way to go as far as convenience is concerned. Still, your efforts count for something! Hope you get access soon.

me too. ive missed in great buy in prices twice...

Yeah. I still think anything under $3 is a really good price. I started buying a lot of STEEM in June when it was $2.18. It was definitely depressing to see it steadily decline, but I have more of a long-term mentality.

It's really annoying to miss the dips. I was looking at STEEM on Bittrex when it was $0.87 but I didn't have access to my funds until the next day, when of course it bounced back to $1.10, lol.

My goal is to get 3000 more SP by the end of the year... at this rate, that's a little aggressive...

And there needs to be a new field in psychology - cryptotherapist - to help people deal with the guilt and disappointment of missing all the good buy-in levels! XD

I have felt the benefit of investing a little of my money to steem. Amazing how it has tripled by this time. I really recommend investing to a steem even it's a little. let's not forget that we can trade steem ;) and we can earn through curation also :D this is what I want to emphasize, earn from curation.

@d-pend you are so right. Ever since I have been engaging in daily post writing, I do see how my Steem has been rising gradually each day. With it is more voting power which I am happy about because the ones who try do deserve more. I spend quite a bit researching but it is actually making me more alert and a bit smarter. I have a long way to go but I am not a quitter!!!

I love what you wrote and I will certainly resteem it. You my friend are a great representative for the block chain. I hope you are well and doing great. You seem to have a wonderful drive which is great for all of us. Have a good beginning week!!! :D

Yes it's been awesome to observe your progress, your articles are doing so well! It makes sense because they are very thorough and made with attention to detail. Your dedication is apparent and before long your upvote strength will be getting more and more! It's always great because then we can support more people.

@d-pend your words are very deeply felt and I really appreciate you so much. You have helped me out so much that I will always be eternally grateful to you. I guess I finally followed my calling...I always wanted to teach people about diseases and so when I started this series I was shocked how much it helped people. I must have gotten the attention of curie because they are the ones who give me the boost.

Working in the health care field for over 35 years, I came across so many parents who didn't realize how to care for their children. After I retired, I was planning on going back to school but then my daughter got sick.

This educational series has put me back on my goal to help others so I am deeply grateful. I know I won't always do as well as I have been doing, but I will continue to educate until I cover everything.

Again d-pend, thank-you for everything! Wishing you also great success and happiness!!!

One of the best blogs and promotion of Steem I've ever read.We Really need to invest in Steem, it has great potential. And if we make money on Steemit then it's responsible that we invest a little money - as you said at least 5-10-50 $ instead of hamburgers.

Thanks @dobartim. If we just set aside a little it will be good! By the way, how did you get on @cheetah's blacklist? You don't seem like a scammer or a plagiarist to me, lol.

I wrote a blog - I copied and I did not set up a source in a quick one, I answered to a person whose mother has cancer - how to use a Karela cucumber - that's it. I believe that they will soon be removed from the list, there is no reason not to be so. Otherwise all the texts are mine.

Ah I see. Well I hope it is cleared up soon! Thanks for stopping by @dobartim.

Right on! Invest is the key word. And build a strong foundation - which takes time.

Yep, it definitely both requires and cultivates patience!

I am working on both. Thanks for the quick response :)

I agree! I am retired and on a limited income, but I buy steem when I can!

Yes, thank you for doing your part! Even a little helps :) Have a great day @melinda010100 :)
