Today I want to discuss about the upvotes and upvote bots on steemit.

Pay and get an UPVOTE !

As some of you may already know, steemit has many "upvote bots" but only few of them are really giving you value for your SBDs.

1. Upvote Value:

When a post gets the upvote, it is a monetary (Steem Backed Dollars or Steem) reward for the post but not only for the author. Upvote will consist of two types of rewards - 1. Author reward and 2. Curation reward. Usually it is 75% and 25%, more for the author but sometimes author gets 75%+ . So when you get upvotes worth of $10, at least $7.5 will go to the author or maybe up to $8.XXX but not $10. The rest is for the curators or for those who gave the upvotes.
One very important detail is that post rewards are redeemed after 7 days from the moment the post was published. This means, that whatever happens in these seven days will affect the payout. Under the word "whatever" I mean the market conditions. If steem or steem backed dollar price changes, the payout will also change accordingly.
Lets draw an example -

You post something on day 1
After few hours your post has several upvotes worth $2.5
On day two no more upvotes are added but SBD (steem backed dollar) price decreases and steem price also goes down
On day two your post payout no longer shows $2.5 but less, proportional to the price decrease of SBD and Steem
But if SBD and Steem prices go up, the payout will also go up and show more than $2.5 as expected payout for the post

Another important factor is that payouts are either:
1. SBD and Steem Power on 50/50 structure or
2. Steem Power only.
When you are about to post, on the right side to the posting button you can choose how you want to get rewarded.
There are 3 options:
1. 50/50 SBD and Steem Power
2. Steem Power only or 100% power up
3. Decline Payouts which means that you will not be rewarded from the post

You should note that when you power up your post with 100%, you will get your author rewards all in steem power and you can only convert them in SBD by powering down and this latter process takes one month, converting to SBDs portion by portion once in a week.

Now that we know how upvote values look like, we can discuss the "upvote bots" that are not free and use the above stated information for the further explanation.

Upvote Bots

Almost all upvote bots aren't free to use. They require certain amount of SBD or Steem to give you an UPVOTE.

Here we should recap what we have said about the upvote structure above. The author doesn't get the 100% of upvote value but at least 75% will be redeemed as SBD and Steem Power. This means, that if you pay $1 to the bot and receive an upvote with $1.2 potential payout, you have lost your money. Want to know why? Lets calculate:

From $1.2 you will get 75%, maybe 77% or even 78%. OK lets bring in some math and multiply $1.2 by 0.77, we get $0.924 which is less than $1. We have lost at least $0.076. I say at least, because within 7 days (before your payouts are redeemed) the SBD value on market can go down and cause your payments to be even less. On the other hand, the word "at least" could be inappropriate because the prices on the market can go up and the payout value will also increase.
Knowing all that, we can conclude that you should get at least 1.34 times the price for upvote. In our example, when you pay $1, you should get $1.34 worth upvote and not loose your money.

1.34*0.75=1.005

Let me also tell you that some upvote bots give upvotes with less total value compared to what you've paid for it.

Again, knowing all this information, you should carefully choose how much you want to spend for your upvotes. For some users breaking even or getting few cents less is ok, because they also look at the quantity of upvotes they get. Why?
Because more upvotes you have for the newly published post, more readers will get interested and more potential free upvotes can be attracted.

Now let me tell you about few bots that are popular at the moment on steemit.

• @booster
  I am not using it as most of the time, SBDs sent are more than actual total value of the upvote received.

• @bellyrub
  Same as booster. It usually gives upvotes that are not worth to pay for.

• @minnowbooster
  My favorite bot. I think it is the only 100% guaranteed profitable bot. Upvotes are sometimes 1.4 times the price in SBD or even higher. I had several occasions when Upvotes where twice as much in value as their price. Go to their website minnowbooster.net to see more details and instructions.

• @randowhale
  Also a good bot, but it has one problem - the bot goes to sleep once in a while and you can't always use it. Most of the time Upvotes are worth the money you pay. When it is not sleeping you should definitely rely on their upvotes. If you pay while the bot is sleeping you will get your money back.

• @buildawhale
  Another good bot as it almost all the time gives profitable upvotes.

• @boomerang
  Not useful. Upvotes aren't profitable. I wouldn't recommend.

• @drotto
  Very good for newbies. It costs only 0.001 SBD and upvotes are always normal. Sometimes you even get 20 times more value compared to the price you pay.

• @steemdiffuser
  Also very good for newbies. For 0.01 SBD you will get at least $0.02 Upvote.
