The one million dollar question: How does Steemit pay the writers ?
Hey guys, I know it's a frequently asked question but I cannot find a clear answer. I discovered recently the concept behind steemit and said to myself: "OMG. This is so great. I can earn money by writing posts. Even by commenting other posts!"" It's the first point in the Steemit FAQ btw: "It is free to post, comment, or upvote all content on Steemit.com. You might even get paid for it!" But then, I wonder: "How the hell does Steem generate revenue ?"" So I read a lot of articles, but still cant figure out.
My understanding so far:
It's free to publish and you can earn money. The money comes from the STEEM token value. The people behind STEEM has a great portion of STEEMs. So if the value increases (because of the hype, because of the increasing adoption of steemit), the staff can redistribute money to publishers... And so on.
So basically, if I can be paid by writing, it is because someone else has invested into the platform, and he can expect also a ROI if a lot of people publish great contents on steemit. Because the value of the platform will increase.
Am I right ? Wrong ?
Thanks for your comment, I will really appreciate !
A quick answer would be that content writers and curators are paid out of a daily reward pool which is essentially printed as inflation of the Steem tokens. The question then becomes, why do the Steem tokens have value, which has many different factors involved including, but not limited to: Steem tokens give users the bandwidth required to use the platform, Steem tokens facilitate nearly instant transfers with zero transaction fees, Steem tokens offer a speculative instrument for investment, etc... If that answer doesn't make sense, imagine if Bitcoin replaced all of the miners with people writing blogs, and the newly mined Bitcoins were distributed to the authors instead of the miners, that would be similar to what Steem is accomplishing. Hope this helps.
Thanks for detailed answer
