Your opportunity to touch the lives of others, ON STEROIDS

The erstwhile privilege of a few

Human history is of invention and discovery, of innovation and advancement.

Throughout human history, however, it has always been such that only a free-thinking minority of scientists, philosophers and revolutionaries have changed how things were done and influenced the lives of others not only in their own community but across the world.

Almost always it was someone from the privileged class who had the means and ways to do something like this. Yes, there were a few sparks of brilliance from the shadows of poverty who did things which were extraordinary but it was never the usual thing to happen. More often than not, the rich always changed things and got richer through the process.

Until the Internet changed it

It was the first time ever that anyone could create a website which could be used by anyone from anywhere in the world.

But even though the Internet democratized information and knowledge to a large extent, creating something on the Internet still needed an education and money.

Large corporations and large investors soon had a disproportionate say. They had the capital to create things or allocate it to people who they found deserving. Competition still ruled. The playing field for big money just moved from the physical to the virtual.

It was still tough for the small guy.

Enter Open-Source

It was again changed when open source became popular. This democratized the Internet to an even larger extent. Now it did not require a big company to create something. Thousands of like-minded individuals, dreamers I call them, started creating projects using the power of open collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Now anyone who had something to contribute could work on a project of choice and help create something worthwhile. The closed environments of large money-minded corporations were no more a barrier.

Thousands of open source projects were created, with objectives ranging from helping the community to building businesses.

They created often times for the joy of it, but money and funding still remained an issue. Many still use their open-source projects as a resume to find jobs and earn a living.

Steem to the rescue, a blockchain for all

This is where blockchain technology and crypto-currencies have now brought about a revolution unlike ever before. Here I will talk about our favourite blockchain Steem.

While ICOs have become the order of the day for raising money for most blockchain based startups, it's not always as easy to really start a new project and have people fund you. You may not always have the idea, the experience, the team or the background of going to the market to raise money for starting a business from the ground up. And in any case, most of these projects are still pipe-dreams.

How is Steem different

Steem, on the other hand, is a living breathing entity with tens of thousands of daily active users. The beauty of this blockchain is that anyone can start with a small idea and build tools and utilities around it which can then be turned into a business to be consumed by the community itself.

Even if you are starting off as a programmer or learning these technologies and are quite a distance away from building a business, you can still earn through your contributions to projects already going on through @utopian-io. This is almost an unheard of thing for open source projects that contributors get rewarded in real money right away.

This is the power and beauty of Steem at your disposal. You can now learn your craft and earn along the way. This works like a positive reinforcement and urges you to learn more and build bigger and better things.

Your project does not need to be technical

Remember, you don't always need to be a programmer to reap the benefits of Steem. If you are new here, you will soon find out that there are many non-programming projects which are quite successful as well. There are arts-based projects around music, painting, digital arts, photography; there are communities of homesteaders, fitness enthusiasts and many other hobbies and interests.

If nothing else, you can always write valuable blogs and add to the very lifeblood of this platform, content. This platform rewards all that is positive, all that adds value to the community.

As the user base of Steem increases, your contributions will be used by tens of thousands and perhaps millions of people over the coming years.

That's what I call the opportunity to touch people's lives, ON STEROIDS.

I like your positivity ♡
My brain seems to be done functioning for the day, but I wanted to say I appriciate this post.

Oh wow this is awesome content! You talk about how Steem has made an almost even playing field for people to contribute and be recognised.

Indeed the rich and those with fiat can cash in and get in and buy tons on SP and become a whale or dolphin in a blink of an eye.

Yet those who doesn't have the means can use their brain, their talent or collaboration skills to create content and be rewarded for it.

Yes it takes more time and effort but it clearly shows it is possible.

Yes, you are a live example that shows it's possible :)

@svkrulze that's how the human history built, a few explorer and pioneer who makes the world beautiful and different than how we see it every day. Coming to the idea of blockchain It indeed is a great leap ahead and we are a formidable part of it.

Yes we are a part, our importance though depends on our contribution

steemit is such a wonderful opportunity and helps a lot of people across the globe and yet there are some who make 'use' of it. if only such people were forced to donate to some cause on steemit, would they do it - I mean donate to causes such as stach or utopian-io and such?

I don't think any kind of force would work... In any case, is forcing possible at all??

so many countries and so many meet ups. A few countries like Nigeria and the Philippines are doing an excellent job in helping steemians but no such thing in India - I hope steem makes a difference in India too

It's up to the community here in India. @firepower has started arranging big meetups, but I think smaller ones should be arranged as well by others

yes, I guess but what we actually need are people who dont give up easily and go on to write quality posts. Hope India can also contribute such authors in the coming days. Hope the promo-steem guys can guide us in promoting steemit in India. I am planning to write posts in local languages to atract new users although the main hurdle is the crypto payout. Thanks for the reply

That's a pretty fun progression. A source of crowd funding for open source that was not there before. Can you imagine crowd funding jobs the same way as current jobs as well? With all the benefits we currently have? I guess that's part of what the excitement is all about.

Can't say about crowd funded traditional jobs with employment benefits, but my next stop is a crowd-funded vacation for life ;)

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!
