Website Perks for Steem Power
There is very little reason to buy a small amount of Steem Power other than long term speculation. A $100 purchase of Steem Power is almost meaningless for curation rewards, voting power etc.
Imagine if only users with $20 of Steem Power could show an avatar on SteemIt.
Users with $50 could benefit from Reddit-gold style perks like highlighting new posts since you last viewed the thread.
Perks would help cement the idea that Steem Power is a form of social status in this community. It's not enforced by the Blockchain, but sites based on Steem would encourage stakeholding by providing these little perks.
I don't think this will put a huge dent in demand in the long run, but its one of the best little ideas ive seen
I think you need a step between $7 new account and $3000 dolphin where your votes begin to have meaning. Millions of people spend a ridiculous amount of money on trivial benefits on online games, social networks etc. Why not Steem Power if it's the token of our site and gives you perks?
As Steemit grows and more minnows join the monetary incentive may dwindle. Plenty of websites offer an avatar or badge system to show how involved users are. It helps you identify who is active on the sight with one quick glance rather than having to go to their profile. Seems like a great idea!
I agree! Yesterday, I read a post which suggested earning badges with the use of specific tags and this idea, too, could be something you can earn like you would in a game, but only with a certain amount of SP.
Everything we can do to help the economy is good. I hope this catches on. @dantheman you listening :)
I would also suggest putting this in the list of things to do on steemit.com o github. It's more likely to be seen by the developers there.
