MY HOBBIES AND HEROES SPEECH!

My First English Speech for 2018!!

Our topic for this speech was Hobbies or Heroes and I obviously chose Heroes, Here is my Hero!!

Captain Moroni

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we read another Scripture called the Book of Mormon, within the book of Mormon there is a man who goes by the Name of ‘Captain Moroni’, Captain Moroni is a Brave and Strong leader that wouldn’t stand down for anything, he always had a plan in mind and knew just how to execute that plan. He lived in the era about 100b.c and was a righteous Nephite military commander, Wikipedia describes the Nephites as a group of people that descended from or were associated with Nephi, the son of the prophet Lehi, who left Jerusalem at the urging of God in about 600 BC and travelled with his family to the Western Hemisphere and arrived to the Americas in about 589 BC. The Book of Mormon notes them as initially righteous people who eventually "had fallen into a state of unbelief and awful wickedness” and were destroyed by the Laminates in about AD 385. The Lamanites are a Group just like the Nephites but are descendants of Laman, which is yet another story for when the time comes.

To get back to the Topic though… Captain Moroni as I said was a very brave and Strong Leader appointed as the Military commander of the Nephites, and he led them with great pride and fearlessness, Captain Moroni was an Inspiration to all of his Nephite soldiers to fight for freedom, and best of all, he was obedient to the word of God and had a Great and strong testimony of our Heavenly Father as stated in Alma 48:11 - 13 which reads:
11. And Moroni was a strong and a mighty man; he was a man of a perfect understanding; yea, a man that did not delight in bloodshed; a man whose soul did joy in the liberty and the freedom of his country, and his brethren from bondage and slavery;

12. Yea, a man whose heart did swell with thanksgiving to his God, for the many privileges and blessings which he bestowed upon his people; a man who did labour exceedingly for the welfare and safety of his people.

13. Yea, and he was a man who was firm in the faith of Christ, and he had sworn with an oath to defend his people, his rights, and his country, and his religion, even to the loss of his blood.

Captain Moroni is Well Known for something called the Title of Liberty: The Title of Liberty was a banner so to say that he would rise to remind the Nephite soldiers to defend their religion, freedom, peace, and families. It was made out of a Piece of his Coat… in Alma 46:12 and 13:
**12. ***And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.*****

13. And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armour about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land

After every time they had conquered a land and claimed it for themselves, he ordered people to hoist a Title of Liberty on every tower in the land, this being so that the Nephites in the land would be able to see it always and be reminded to defend their religion, freedom, peace, and families.

In the beginning of the year I had set a Personal goal for myself where I challenged myself to read a chapter or 2 of the book of Mormon every day, I got carried away every day and ended up getting to Alma much earlier than expected, but just as well I did, Every time I open into Alma I get excited because I get to read more an more about Captain Moroni

I chose Captain Moroni because of the type of person he is, the things he did for others and especially the Faith he had in our Heavenly Father.
