San Diego Meetup Roundup
Last Sunday, many Southern California Steemians met in Old Town in San Diego. Well, by many, I mean 13. Our group was actually 16 Steemit Bloggers strong, but three of them joined us from far away - Suriname, to be exact.
That actually added to the excitement we all felt. It more than ever brought it home that we, on Steemit, are truly making friends all over the world.
"Why have an in-person local meetup?" You say. "You all are so excited about meeting people from all over the world!"
That is an excellent question and the answer is simple. Meeting in person enriches our online relationships even more.
And - this is the big one - it leads to planning adventures together. Those, in turn, lead to more awesome material to post to this platform.

Let me start with Larry, also known to you as @csusbgeochem1.
He had the longest drive of all of us!
In his post you will read and see a lot about cars.
Especially about this situation.
Read all about it in his post. But he needs to get a prize for spending more than 5 hours on the road to go to a 3-hour meetup.
Also coming from far away and getting way slowed down by the same traffic jam were @creationofcare and @mattlovell.
I bet you by the time they had this lovely dinner, they had forgotten all about the slow, slow drive to get here. Cat was so fast with her pictures - she shared them on the drive home to the SoCalSteemit discord group so attendees which either didn't bring a camera or were too busy talking to take a picture could write a post as well.
Thank you so much for that and that is another good reason to join the SoCalSteemit on Discordgroup if you are from Southern California.

If you haven't met them yet, they are our former New Yorker city dwellers and now Fallbrook country folk Steemians @madpotters and @nutinbutdatruth
We talked a lot about California time being much different from New York time. There, you show up at 2 pm if the invite says 2 pm - not 30 minutes to 2 hours later. German time works that way too and even though I have adapted, when you organize an event, it feels very reassuring when people actually start to show up.

@thisgirl also wrote a great article about the meetup.
She was the instigator and got us started on introducing ourselves to the whole group. Each of us shared a bit about what we are up to on Steemit. I thought that this gave depth to our meeting and we all walked away knowing each other a bit better.
You can tell what she wrote on the sign: As a true Italian - every meeting should involve pizza!

San Diegans. I am thinking of hosting a meetup once a month. Let me know what you think and also, what days are good for you!!

Thanks for the great recap of the event @mariannewest! Everyone made really good posts. I was jealous reading them. lol! I really hope I can make it to next months SD meetup. Me and Larry were thinking about maybe planning one in the LA area next month as well. We'll chat with some of the LA members and see what they think.
