Stolen Credit Card Numbers In OnePlus

in #security6 years ago (edited)

The stories of the customers of OnePlus began to spread these days. Users found suspicious transactions in bank statements. Since there were more and more stories, the suspicion quickly fell to OnePlus, where smartphones were ordered and paid by credit cards. The company OnePlus confirmed the intrusion and offered all assistance to the affected customers in solving problems.

The analysis found that the OnePlus were victims of a hacker attack in which about 40,000 their users were affected. While hacking attacks and places of personal data are not unusual, it rarely happens that the attackers steal credit card numbers. This way they succeeded because hackers inserted a malicious script into the OnePlus site, which recorded entries. Attackers got numbers of customer credit cards that were typed into the website between November 2017 and January 2018.

Anyone who paid with PayPal or with a credit card number already stored in OnePlus and did not re-enter it is safe, the company emphasized. As a result, all affected users have already contacted and offered the money back aid. Until the problem is fully researched, the company won't offer credit card payments, but only through PayPal. In the future, security will be strengthened so that this will not happen again. (my comment: let's see this...).

OnePlus is a well-known Chinese manufacturer of very decent phones at a good price. The company has been very successful in Western markets in recent years. Their OnePlus 5T, which came out in November last year, for example, competes with iPhone 8, Pixel 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note8 but costs only 500 €. The company is trying to conclude contracts with as many Western operators as possible, but customers mostly buy phones over the Internet.
