One of the greatest achievements of Science and Technology is the invention of electricity and its applications. Electricity is very useful in virtually every sphere of life.

How about we take a look at the life we are enjoying with the intervention of electricity

With electricity, industries can manufacture goods; Scientists can easily carry put further experiments; hospitals can save lives; offices can produce quick results, working with computers under a cool environment provided by air conditioners; housewives can do their household chores with ease, using electrical gadgets; youth can be self employed by opening cyber cafes, videos clubs, etc; families can relax watching revision programs, home and foreign videos in cool sitting rooms over chilled drinks from refrigerators.

How is electric power transmitted?

Electricity flows through conductors. Power is transmitted in either low frequency or high frequency. In low frequency, the conductors used are cables which carry alternating current (AC). The conductors are connected to a source of electricity, such as a battery. Sockets are generators ate equipmentflr low frequency power transmission.

When electric power is needed for transmitting messages over long distances, high frequency is required. Electric devices (the receivers), such as radio and television set, act as loads. The source of electric lowering high frequency, is a transmitter made up of electric devices. Transmission is also by means of the glow of current I conductors. Both the transmitter and the receiver are rate in watts or kilowatts. In high frequency, power is transmitted by a combination of electric and magnetic field, thus antennae are installed in both the transmitter and the receiver. The transmission antenna generates the electromagnetic field which is transmitted by the atmosphere. The transmitted field interacts with the receiving antenna thus producing electric current. The message transmitted (sound or vision) is recovered from this current in the receiver. Subtraction exists near where power KS utilised to provide either a step-up or step-down transformer. A step-down transformer will bring down the voltage to a level suitable for the equipment needing the electric power, such as air conditioners and lighting appliances, which require phase volts of just 230volts.

To avoid danger to human body, conductors are enclosed in sheaths which do not conduct electricity. The controlling devices are in form of switch gears.

The invention of electricity has played the most vital role in human existence and the life we enjoy today is all thanks to Science and Technology.
