SCAM WARNING! Watch out for Comments by steem-reporter! PHISHING ALERT
Just a general notice of WARNING to all Steemit users:
New Phishing Scam on Steemit — @steem-reporter!
Scam alert! DO NOT click on any links posted by this user!
This particular scam takes the form of comments, that have the appearance of being a "service" that lets you know someone else shared your post.
The link actually takes you OFF Steemit to a site that looks like Steemit, but isn't-- and you're asked to log in as a "returning user."
These do NOT link to Steemit posts-- DO NOT CLICK!
DO NOT DO THIS! It is an attempt to steal your password/keys, and the person will gain access to your wallet!
Oddly enough, even @cheetah is being tagged in these comments — perhaps to add a sense of "legitimacy? —STUPID move!
Please re-steem this message so as to spread the word as widely as possible!

That is not nice . . .ill resteem it !!
Thank you! And no, it's not nice...
A couple of weeks ago I too was scammed. It was by Good = Kama and Gtg,witnesses. They took 663.843 of my SBD (all of it) and 22.641 steem tokens from my wallet. I posted about it for a week. Damn them. Yes folks be very wary and be safe not to be scammed as I and many others have. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm sorry to hear that @enjoywithtroy; it has happened to some really good people. I do remember the gtg/good-karma witness scam... again, someone spoofing real and respected Steemians' accounts for gain.
Unfortunately, since we're a decentralized system, there's no "they" that will come along and warn us; WE have to be our own warning system.
They must see it as a twisted game. I mean is it really worth that much time and effort to rip off your fellow humans! They must get off on thinking they are clever and able to craft a trap. Just pathetic.
I find the whole thing pretty stupid. Especially the ones who spend hours and hours building spoof web sites and spoof this and that.... so they end up ripping off $50, in the end. WTF? You could spend the same time flipping burgers and have $250.
"Yeah, but you're missing the POINT! I'm sticking it to the establishment!"
No, no you're not. You're sticking it to individuals like yourself-- either directly, or indirectly because corporate bankruptcies ultimately come back to us as higher taxes...
I made a Chrome desktop browser extension to help identifying those links more easily: https://steemit.com/utopian-io/@quochuy/steemed-phish-v0-0-14-is-out-a-chrome-extension-to-protect-yourself-from-steemit-like-phishing-scam-websites
If you know of other websites to be blacklisted, let me know
Nice work! "Steemed Phish," that's a pretty clever name! I hope you get some support from @utopian-io, since this seems like a really useful utility for the community.
Thanks for the call out. I've had a bunch of phishing links today...thankfully didn't get caught out. Seems like there's more lately....
They do seem to be getting more frequent and varied. I fear it will only get worse after HF.20 kicks in, which will make account creation easier... with many thousands of new accounts per day, the crooks will also intensify their efforts. It's a shame.
I kinda like that account creation is tough...but if the platform is going to grow. I guess that has to change. Perhaps there will have to be more management from steemit inc...or removal of links from comments or something...
I agree with you on that one; but unless the manual approval process currently in place is considerably streamlined, it will turn into an obstacle to any kind of mainstream adoption of Steemit as a content platform-- people expect "instant gratification."
I had thought of maybe a "probation period;" the infrastructure is already in place with resellers like "anonsteem" — 30 days up front during which an account CAN be deleted by...? Maybe an agreement of at least 3 or 5 witnesses? If someone does something damaging to the community... like commit fraud or attempt to.
Shame we can’t just toss them in a hole and start a nice bonfire! Least they would have done something for society other than trash that no one put into the garbage bin yet.
Shame, indeed. Or make them walk the plank into a shark tank below.
thanks for the heads up @denmarkguy. I've definitely seen this account around but not sure where and whether or not I've clicked on any links. Will pay closer attention in future!
Have a fun Sunday. 😊
It's a shame we all need to be hypervigilant all the time, but it seems there's no way around it. The sad thing is that so many of these phishing scams are set to emulate Steemit so closely it's hard to tell the difference.
I haven't really been paying attention at all since I don't tend to click on links but I will be more careful when I do in future.
These horrible scammers should be reported to some kind of “police”. IP adress can be obtained easily.
As long as they are not brought to justice, it will keep turning up
You definitely have a point. AT the very lest, it would be nice if someone(s) created a community or cooperation where they could keep a blacklist of user accounts that engage in dodgy behavior.
These scams have been around for a while. I remember I reported something similar a few days ago.
We need to be careful.
Does seem a lot like mew "versions" pop up every few days. Sometimes I think there's a bit of a "copycat" thing going on. The people we can warn, the better.
Steem-reporter is a disguise person who is also called theif...we should protest him by reporting..unless new steemians are lossed their wallet too....
awareness must necessary too..
i @resteem your post..all should do this too..
thanks..
@upvoted
Precisely! It's a thief, parading around pretending to be an information service. Thanks for the resteem.
