The General On How Steemit Is Rotten: Jeff Berwick Represents Steemit

in #rotten8 years ago (edited)

I recently unfriended Jeff Berwick.
In his recent, apparently sarcastic post,
"Steemit Is A Scam! How Bernie Sanders Screwed Me!",
he talks about how a bot called berniesanders apparently downvoted (flagged? I'm still trying to figure out what the hell "downvote" is). And while his post is complete bullshit stupidity, my first reaction was to say,

"It is equally bullshit to censor him.
This isn't about money, and the connection to money that people keep making ("This is a scam.") is complete bullshit.
This is about free speech."

And then I read his comments:
"dollarvigilante (63) · 2 hours ago
You didn't notice the whole post was sarcasm?"

Gee. Frankly, no: I wouldn't put such a post past you, buddy.
Your sarcasm could easily pass for the reality that you, from what I'm guessing, subtly actually are.
I mean, you're willing to say Yes to people voting for Bernie Sanders -
EXCUSE ME, wrong politician -- DONALD TRUMP -- to stop war
!
That's not anarchy; that's MINARCHY.

moonjelly summarizes the problem with his comment on this post:
"Please don't tell me you don't know what you are getting yourself into...I'm not a child. This guy is not stupid, I'm from South America and I know how things are handled here. A gringo with money can run amok in a second, you can literally get away with murder, I mean, you won't even face a trial, it's not like you would need to pay top lawyers or anything like that.

The point maybe isn't very clear. But just visit his posts. You think that's healthy? A shady guy earning 15k, flaunting his money with a headline that says get steemillionaire. But that's only the start.

Read the comments, people are clapping this asshole, they love it, they can't get enough, they want to be like him or at least this system makes them want to be like him. Anyone who tells me that his post is great and well formatted and that's why he earned 15k is wrong, period. I'm not naive, I read things, I see how things work over here, I've been around you know. Do I have to remind you that I'm from South America? I can smell bullshit from a thousand miles and this is cryptoland. You know something's up and something's not right. 15-20k posts? Really? Do you think this platform brings anything new except for that? Do you think that's sustainable? What do you think about crossvoting whales? multiple accounts? Do you think Steem is valuable? I know content is valuable, but Steem it's not valuable, nobody needs it, if you are a good content creator you'll earn it."

So I'm fine with giving Jeff Burwick some attention right here.
He deserves it.
And steemit deserves to know why their system, and their focus on monetary checks and balances with whales and such, is a piece of shit.

Let it to a "capitalist" to show the flaw with making a Bitsystem that is focused on monetary security,
as opposed to social functionality.

Let it to Jeff to be "censored" with a cigarette sticking out of his mouth.
Censored my ass.
Attention whore and loving it.
And that's what this system is designed to have float to the top:
STUPID ATTENTION-WHORE DRAMA.
And he's loving it.
You can tell from the look on his face.
And if that's what steemit is about, count me out.

Can you show otherwise?
Please do.
"Boo hoo capitalist sarcasm" indeed!
You treat the Narcissist post as if it's just a whiny outlier cunt:

"Just kidding, I am a narcissistic capitalist. I don't cry.

[*Edit: Unbelievably, a few people thought this post was serious (Like this guy! https://steemit.com/steemit/@kdugar/why-dollar-vigilante-is-an-a-shole-and-needs-to-be-taught-how-to-respect-people)! It was sarcasm and creative writing. @berniesanders has the right to do whatever he wants in a free market. I have no problem at all with it and find it fascinating to see how Steemit evolves and how things like whales evolve to adapt to content. It's an experiment in the free market on the blockchain. It's beautiful. What Bernie did, though, could spark a discussion about the role of whales which is a healthy discussion, one that I'll likely delve into in future.]"

Psh.

You want me to change my mind about steemit?
Do what Bill Ottman and John of Minds.com did.
Focus on features and community interaction.
It's going to take them longer than it needs to to get stuff up and running,
but I'm pretty sure they will eventually.
Not Bit-this, Bit-that.
Sure, it's good to have a stable money part, but without stable social features,
your "money" is utterly worthless and destined to MySpace and tsu itself into oblivion.

Sort:

There was almost nothing resembling a coherent thought in this post. There is nothing wrong with what Berwick is doing, and he most definitely is not a minarchist.

People who cut others down are the narcissists. Most people complaining that Jeff is a narcissist are the ones in fact being the narcissists.
