A Trip Down to Memory Lane - Old Portuguese Rock Songs

Last night @soyrosa invited us to a challenge. The idea is to share a Rock band singing in our own mother tongue - in my case, that's Portuguese.

There are countless Portuguese Rock bands but only a small handful sing in Portuguese.

One very well known band in Portugal - whose vocalist sings in Portuguese - has been one of my favourite for around 20 years now. Or is it 30?

They are called Resistência and Nasce Selvagem is one of their earliest tunes. It means Born Wild and it's still a fantastic track, after all these years.

This song is from 1991, the same year Nirvana's Smell Like Teen Spirit was the talk of the world. Can you believe that?

Here's the original studio version song. No video, just the song... for comparison purposes.

These guys have a lot of originals but they also love to play tribute to other Portuguese singing artists.

Here's an example, a cover of a song from Rádio Macau.

Xana was the lead singer from Rádio Macau, so yes, the original song was written by and for a girl but I think they've pulled that off quite well.

This one is called Amanhã É Sempre Longe Demais. (Tomorrow Is Always Too Far Away) and here's the version from the original artists.

After Rádio Macau disbanded, Xana launched a few cool solo albums, too. Here's a live performance from a song called Manual de Sobrevivência, which means Survival Guide.

Sorry about the low quality of the videos. The TV's resolution wasn't that great, back then... And people were using VHS recorders to capture these videos. 😱
