What is resteeming?

It's like sharing in Facebook and retweeting in Twitter. It means you are giving additional publicity to a post that somebody else wrote by republishing it in your blog feed.
If it's important info for the Steemit community, you're doing everyone a favor.
If it's not, you're not. You may even be seen as a pest.

Why would I want to resteem somebody else's post?

Because the content is good / interesting / well-written and you feel it deserves better visibility. You want to share that post with all your followers.
This factor is an incentive for us all to produce the best content we can, both to build Steemit and to build our own account here. Those two factors work together nicely.

Where is the resteeming button?

It's right after the end of the post. It's a stylized U-turn arrow.

  • If you can't find it, maybe you're already following that person.
  • Maybe you're looking on your own blog or feed (and you won't find there because you can't resteem yourself).
  • Maybe it's too old to qualify for resteeming (7 days, I think).
Here's a screenshot from A Rainbow of Carrots! - Which Color is Your Favorite Flavor? which is a post that has done well but would be appreciated by more people, so I'll resteem it.

And after I resteemed the post, the U-turn arrow turned green...

What happens when I resteem a post?

It appears in your blog feed, along with your own posts. Like this...

If a big player in Steemit resteems your post, lucky you. Your post will be seen by a lot more Steemians because it's in his/her feed. Your post gets broadcast to all the followers on the big player. Nice!
Which means that more people can upvote your post — if it's any good.

Do I earn rewards when I resteem somebody else's post?

Nope.
Is that a negative? Maybe not so much, because the guy/gal whose post you're resteeming may very well visit your blog and if your posts catch their fancy, she/he may upvote or comment or resteem your work.

What will happen if I resteem too many posts?

Some of your followers will get fed up and will unfollow you. So resteem in moderation.

What happens if I resteem low-grade content?

You run the risk of getting flagged (the opposite of upvoted). So don't resteem indiscriminately. Only give the added publicity to worthy posts.

Any tips about resteeming?

Don't resteem a brand new post. Wait a while. How long? @resteembot says 5 hours is enough.

This is a great recap of resteeming and what it does. I just resteemed this post because it's great info that I'm sure lots of Steemians can use. I am fairly selective on what I choose to resteem because I have no interest in sharing junky posts.

Learned something new about resteem. Going to have to make a small adjustment on when to resteem. Thanks for the valuable information.

Thanks for the summary of resteeming and the reminder to be selective about what we resteem. Great info.
