Racism In The Present And The Past

in #racism6 years ago (edited)

Hello friends when we talk about racism, we talk about the superiority that a person feels for others because they belong to different races or ethnicities. Racism seeks a hierarchical order among ethnic groups in order to justify the privileges and advantages that the dominant group usufruct.

In order to oppose racism the United Nations (UN) adopted in 1965 the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and determined on March 21 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination .

Racism and xenophobia

Racism is the rejection of biological differences towards a person who is considered inferior, that is, it is an ideology of superiority. Xenophobia comes from the Greek xenos meaning "foreigner" and phóbos meaning "fear," therefore, it is a rejection only towards foreigners.

Racism and racial discrimination

Racism is a theory based on the prejudice according to which different human races or ethnic groups have biological differences that justify relations of superiority among them, such as rejection, aggression.

Rational discrimination is the act of separating, distinguishing one person from another by belonging to a different social category and positive discrimination is when discriminations are settled in order to recognize the equality of the people harmed in order to combat racism.

Racism and Homophobia

Racism is the repudiation against people resorting to racial motives, skin tone or other physical characteristics of individuals. Homophobia is the rejection against homosexual men and women.

Origin of racism

Racism emerged in Western Europe in order to justify the supremacy of the white race over the rest of humanity.

Racism was used from the last decades of the nineteenth century by European countries to verify the legality of movements of colonial domination, jingoism and genocide, in various parts of the world.

Racism in the United States during colonization

Slavery in the United States began with black African slaves and people of African descent and, rarely, with Amerindians. Slavery is prohibited in the United States in the year 1865, after the Civil War.

Nazi racism and the Jewish and gypsy holocaust

The progress of racism in German culture had its maximum progress with the national socialist movement, better known as Nazism, was led by Adolf Hitler, who gained great support from the German people between 1930 and 1940 until the Second World War in the year 1945. Nazi racism was directed towards people of Jewish origin and people belonging to the Roma people.

South African racism during apartheid

Apartheid was a regime of racial segregation or rejection established in South Africa by an ethnic group of Dutch or Boer or Afrikaner origins.

Apartheid proper was undertaken in 1948 with the seizure of power by social power, this party established a racist regime that strengthened the domination of the white minority and made the miscegenation of the population impossible, that is, it prohibited marriage between white people and color, prohibited the sexual act between a white person and an African, Indian or colored person.

In 1955, some opposition organizations created a common alliance for the struggle of freedom and to institute a state without racial discrimination. The anti-racist struggles were repressed by the Boer regime, among the leaders was Nelson Mandela who was arrested and remained in prison for 27 years (1963-1990).

Beginning in the 1970s, the South African regime began to be rejected by world public opinion and most of the international community.

Currently, racism is considered a punishable offense ranging from minor to greater penalties.

conclusions

As it is possible that 200 years have passed and there are still racists both at work and in social life with discrimination, you do not gain anything, in adolescents there is also racism in their school, in the university, children at an early age have to teach them to have a principle that we are all human beings and we all have the same right as others. This world is free to express what we feel and live our life our way.

It does not matter if you are gay, black, white, Indian, Chinese, Russian, we are all "physically" the same, we have the same feelings, we feel pain, joy, fear ect ... we live in an era that we all have freedom of expression, we will live In the age of Internet, of social networks, that one can talk to anyone in the world, regardless of whether it is Korean, African or French, Steemit is a dino example of something, steemit has been in charge of uniting people from all over the world. world and will continue to unite more people over the years, good steemit I will talk more in another publication for the time enjoy your day.

In my opinion, people just don't like the differences. Racism is an obvious one. Even though same race, classes discrimination, areas discrimination, group discrimination.... I wish we can respect the differences and make our world more friendly.

that we all hope, that this world is friendly, if racism did not exist, this world would be better, there would be no religious war between mulsumanes and christian, no labor discrimination, everything would be perfect.

You explained in a beautiful way about racism. First of all nice to meet u @joelgonz1982 i am from india. We too have racism in our country . If you look black they dont care about them and treat them as illiterate i hate this one and martin luther king is my inspiration i like him so much thank you

I was born and raised by a family that was racist against black people, which included extended family. I feel that I was blessed, and lucky that I was able to escape that trap, and to not hand it down to then entrap my own children.

Families like mine have lessened in number as civil rights for all has taken hold, but they do still exist, and it's more likely than not that most of their children will carry it on and hand it down to their spawn.

Eventually it will end completely, when we all are intelligent enough to know better.

I'm glad you've been out of your family's influence, raising with racist thoughts makes you a selfish and irrational person who does not love your own race, we're not guilty of being born into an African-American family, only God knows what it does and because he did not put in this life.

Not only am I out of my family's influence, I am 180 degrees from their way of thinking, and have been for a long time. But I still come to the realization at times that I'm still progressing in ridding myself of the memories of those vignettes from growing up in a racist home, from my mind. I know from experience that the kind of indoctrination to racism that happens in the type of family in which I was raised, is very hard to escape. That's not to imply that someone raised the way I was, should receive empathetic consideration for their racist views, (if they still have them), as not being their fault, or that they never knew better. A racist is a racist, and it's a very bad thing to be. Likewise, I claim no credit or reward for becoming aware that there's only one race in humanity. In my case, it was just continuing to grow up.
