Pimp Your Post Thursday Report #4 -- From Nov. 9th PYPT

in #pypt7 years ago (edited)

Well, another interesting day of PYPT presentations at two sessions, morning and evening. It’s great to see Steemizens coming together and sharing on such a diverse array of topics and interests.

While I share with you the posts and touch on some of the discussions which those posts spark, it’s nothing like being present and getting the feel of the sessions.

The purpose of PYPT is for Steemizens to bring along a recent post, share it with the assembled and talk about the post and their blog. I tend to be pretty flexible with the sharing.

Some of those who attend are really great at finding new members of Steemit who are showing some potential and they share the profiles in an effort to get them some more notice on the platform. Others prefer to share other people’s work and that is okay. Others attend to listen in and have a look at the work being presented.

All of that is okay, it’s all about people getting to know each other and their work.

Here are the posts that were shared.

Announcing the new ChainBB Christianity Discussion Forum

First time visit to PYPT for @seablue. He shared with us his announcement post about the Christianity Discussion Forum he has setup on ChainBB a Steem based discussion forum. While comments in the comment section can be interesting they are not always the easiest to follow over a day or more. Using ChainBB makes this easier. Check it out.

Might be a good time to mention, I have created a Steemit Ramble forum on ChainBB, just haven’t done anything with it yet. I’ll post more about that later.

How to Create Your Own Curation Trail Bot (Part 1- Background)

How to Create Your Own Curation Trail Bot (Part 2- Tutorial)

Today was the first opportunity that @ethandsmith has had to join us in PYPT. He brought with him today a two part post discussing how to create a curation trail bot. The first part provides some background to the use of bots on Steemit and the second part is a tutorial on how to create your own bot.

I’m impressed enough with these two, I’m going to enter them into the #posts-that-rock channel on the Steemit Ramble.

Motherhood, another Minnie story

Another first time attendee to PYPT was @tinypaleokitchen who presented a story she had written. Bringing power to the idea of writing what you know @tinypaleokitchen writes about the field she works in Medical Imaging and in particular shares the impact dealing with trauma can have on the tech. I found the story very powerfully written.

How the Minnow Support Project Helps You Achieve Your Dreams on Steemit - And How to Join!

@SaipanDamashii aka @rodeo670 in this post he presented on how the Minnow Support Program MSP on the PAL discord works. He credits MSP with much of the success he has attained on Steemit since he arrived. He was asked if he thought he could have done as well on his own without MSP and he very confidently felt the answer was no, what he has learned and the networking he has done has been important.

We took a brief detour from the normal presenting of posts as I gave @guiltyparties the floor to share with us a couple of newer members of Steemit who he feels is showing some potential.

@guiltyparties along with @seablue are two I have met on Steemit who do a great job of finding and sharing unsung newbs. So, please visit their profiles, have a look at their posts and give them some support and encouragement.

The two @guiltyparties shared are:

Cera O'Malley — Creating comics, art, illustrations and short stories in the Battlelords sci-fi universe.

Roads Untravelled — Automotive Filmmakers - Reviews, Features and More!!

@seablue then shared this person who he’d brought to my attention a while ago. This fellow posts some interesting material but tends to just post plain text without the benefit of a graphic to draw the eye. Check him out:

Anarachist Banjo

BOOM! There Is My Brain Baby : Humans Of Steemit

@sargento aka @sgt-dan presented next and decided to share this post by @ashleykalila. While people are complaining and bemoaning the bots on Steemit, @ashleykalila wants to inject the humanity of Steemit by interviewing the people of Steemit. Interesting project. I hope she’ll come to PYPTs to share her interview posts.

Steem and EOS could benefit from the continual vulnerability faced with Ethereum multi-sig wallets...

@daudimitch has shown himself to be passionate about cryptocurrency and the technology surrounding it. He shared a post today in which he explores the issues Ethereum has been having lately, particularly their multi-sig wallet and how STEEM could benefit from that situation, especially when SMTs are implemented.

GuiltyParties Witness Update - 9 Nov 2017

@guiltyparties is one of the witnesses who has supported PYPT since the beginning. He’s a veteran and a strong supporter of the veteran community on Steemit. If you talk to me for all of five minutes this time of year you’ll likely learn that I am also a supporter of veterans and have worked to that end for fourty years plus.

@guiltyparties presented his latest witness report. The report generated an interesting discussion about the use of voting bots and the votes for witnesses which have gone inactive and are still holding spots which could be taken by active witnesses.

@guiltyparties asked those in attendance their views on witnesses who solicit votes through wallet spam. The clear consensus was that this is not an acceptable practice for a witness. Wallet spam for anything isn’t viewed favourably.

My Experience Buying an Upvote and My Conclusions

@steemitgraven29 led off the evening presenting his post which described his experience using voting bots. This is a very well written post as it is written in an even-handed style on a topic which generates some passionate argument on both sides. Read and draw your own conclusions and even try your own experiment

Concepts like vote bots stand or decline on the acceptance and usage by the community.

The ethics of Using Bots

It somehow seemed to be a natural segue into @meno’s post on the ethics of using bots. He explores the original vision of Dan Larimer on voting in the community during the time of the non-linear reward curve. He also looks at the current reward curve and the impact of the whale’s voting bots.

As a side note, there was a LOT of complaining about how unfair the non-linear reward curve was and the voting strength of whales in that system. It seems like a system acceptable to the vocal majority is pretty difficult to attain.

THREE-FER! 3 New Full Force Thursday Heavy Metal Playlists — I Stream More Metal Live on the Waves in 30 Minutes

@kubbyelizabeth stepped up next to promote @crimsonclad’s post about her MSP Waves radio show which unfortunately runs at the same time as PYPT. So, if you’re not coming into PYPT for some strange reason, stop into @crimsonclad’s show.

During the ensuing discussion about @crimsonclad’s great radio voice, I pointed out that we had a person in PYPT who also has a great radio voice, @kubbyelizabeth. Her show is on Tuesday evenings.

Picasso 1932's Love, Fame, Tragedy – Paris Travel Edition

@myrockandocean presented her post about Picasso with some background on the artist and the current exhibitions taking place in Paris which is where @myrockandocean joins us from on PYPT.

Her presentation sparked a lively discussion about modern art, what it is and how it manages to attain the values it does.

Custodian, Ch 1/part1 - Original Fiction

It took a bit of coaxing to get @authorofthings to share with us but it was worth the effort. This is the first part of what is clearly an excellent story. We definitely want to know when the next segments are published. Well done @authorofthings, maybe you’ll venture onto the mic at some point in the future :)

Breast Cancer Awareness Walk - Tampa, Florida - Photography

@saffisara presented this post of @topkpop’s about her experience taking part in a breast cancer awareness walk in Tampa. As is usual for @topkpop she has written a great post accompanied by some great photos.

As often happens with the subject of cancer it touched off a discussion as people shared their thoughts and experiences about cancer. I lost both my parents to cancer, my mother to breast cancer and my father to lung cancer that had travelled into the liver.

I don’t believe I’ve come across a family not touched by this devastating disease.

Do you want a bigger Upvote?

@goldenarms couldn’t come onto mic last night and wasn’t really able to hear us but he hung in chatting in text as he could. He did let us know in between name changes that he was waiting for his wife’s company to leave so he could take off his pants. :)

@goldenarms’ work has been shared on PYPT before. He writes some very creative material. He shared a contest he is part of and asked for votes on his comment on this post which is part of his entry into the contest. What a great sport. Looking forward to him returning next week ready to rock the chat.

Bahbahra’s Buddy Contest (week 4) 5 SBD in Prizes

What is quickly becoming a PYPT tradition is @tattoodjay sharing with us about his latest Bahbahra’s Buddy Contest. If you’ve not seen these posts or taken part in the contest, you want to. It’s fun and creative. He shared with us he’s really enjoying reading the entries each week.

The winner from the previous contest is at the top of the post, the theme for the new contest is further down and keep reading to the end, where even more contests can be found.

Creative Acts of Joy: A Month Long Challenge/Contest 25SBD

@limabeing was so determined to be part of the PYPT she joined us from a train platform on a phone with a dying battery. She quickly shared this post for her month long contest with a creative acts of joy them. I’ll let you read the post, it looks like it should be fun.

If you follow me, I have a sincere request for you to follow my project account also: @YouAreHOPE, please and thank you!

@SirCork arrived just on the tail end of the PYPT as he’d been stuck in traffic. He did share with those who had not left yet the post he’d written for @YouAreHOPE. This is a great initiative to fundraise STEEM in order to improve the lives of people in impoverished areas of the world.

@SirCork is one of the witnesses who has been supporting and assisting the PYPT project right from the beginning. He’s willing to take time out of a busy day to hang out and help out.

Conclusion for Today

So, another great day for PYPT. There were seventeen posts shared and the profiles of three promising newer members of Steemit. Please visit the posts, if you haven’t already, and give them some support and comments.

Autovotes and voting bots might help to fund a post, but, it is the eyes on the post and the comments added that really lets the authors know their work is seen and appreciated. Nothing like some motivation to keep you all going. I’m always grateful for the comments that people take the time to put on my posts.

Don’t forget, you can visit the Steemit Ramble discord at anytime. When you share the post of another Steemizen in the nominate-someones-post channel you will get access to another channel nominate-your-post. I regularly review those two channels for potential posts to share in the Steemit Ramble.

If you are two busy to share, there is a post promotion channel. I might look in there some day. Steemit is about sharing and building community.

Good post.
upvote and resteem

As always, thanks for having me on.

Hi, i've been off steemit for a while but I noticed I have been upvoting you for about 6 months using curie, is that different than the curation trail on Streemian?

I don't know .. I thought curie was a curation guild.

So now you are back, consider joining PYPT to get to know people.

i was wrong about using curie, what I meant was streemian, which is what I was using. What is PYPT, how do I join it?

You may want to have a look at this post. Pimp Your Post Thursday is an opportunity for people to present their post and talk about it on voice chat in the Steemit Ramble discord. (link in the post) ... you can also nominate other people's posts for review for the Steemit Ramble blog posts.

This post is a report of the posts which were shared last Thursday.
