You Might Get Happy If You Get Off Facebook

You might be happier if you delete your Facebook account.

At least that's what researchers from New York University and Stanford University have recently concluded, after they paid more than 2,000 participants to stop using their Facebook account for one month.

Researchers discovered that by getting rid of the Facebook account that it could lead to small but meaningful improvements in overall wellness.

By logging off it's likely to lead to increased subjective wellness, improved time spent with loved ones, dealing with less conflict and political drama, among other benefits. However, by logging off it could result in a trade-off of those users being less informed because of it.

Overall, most of the participants had agreed that getting off of the site for a few weeks did them some good. Participants reported feeling improvements to their overall happiness, anxiety, depression, and life satisfaction.

Trying to balance social media consumption with our own mental health wellness can be more difficult for some to manage than it is for others. Just like any tool, social media can be used for harm or for good and it offers many benefits along with the risks that are posed.

If we are going to spend the majority of our time online fighting with other people then it's easy to understand how getting away from that could quickly boost your mood and overall happiness and satisfaction in life.

Still, many people don't want to unplug because they are afraid that they will miss out or because it's still the tool that they use to communicate with most of their loved ones.

Health experts have suggested that limiting your media consumption time might be a good place to start if you feel like the experiencing is overwhelming you or bringing too much anxiety, depression, and negativity into your life. However, researchers note that it could come with a trade-off in the individual possibly being less informed, as Facebook is where many people hear about recent news stories etc, but there are still thousands of places to go looking for informative and trustworthy information aside from Facebook.

Hello @doitvoluntarily, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!

Why give it away on FB when you get paid on Steemit. FB is passe. Your grandmother is there if she is still alive. One would be happier off the FB. Makes sense.

Good morning @doitvountarily, my thinking is that if facebook becomes an obsession and with comments affecting one's mood then there is definitely a problem. The really sad and tragic part about this social media site and many others is the impact of cyber bullying on individuals who as a result experience depression and even worse cause some to suicide. If only they had switched off and deleted facebook.

Slowly the people are getting aware of the negative impact of too much social media to their well being. Tempered usage or why not switch to decentralized social media at the same time?

@doitvoluntarily Hello dear friend, unfortunately this is a problem of the majority of social networks, especially when the person loses control of his life and devotes all day to be connected to them. Thank you very much for sharing this news
I wish you a wonderful weekend
