CryptoCoffeeChat Episode 8(a): Thinking Future with Ambassador @futurethinker

This is Number 8 in a series of blogs where I talk to a Crypto/Steemit Enthusiast over Coffee

Except on this occasion we totally mixed it up so rather than Coffee – I was on Green Tea with Mint and my fellow Steemit compatriot @FutureThinker went even further off grid and went Sweet Potato. Yes, that’s it my CryptoCoffeeChat – has gone totally CryptoSweetPotato ...............So watch out for the @futurethinker and his inaugural foodie blog on baked sweet potato with olive oil, lightly seasoned golden skin, with a carrot foam and a rosemary jus! (I think in a base sense is a bit like Jacket Spud with HP brown sauce!).

So just in case you don’t know, @futurethinker lives in the Ether (see below context) and there are no phones lines there - so our chat was text based. To be untruthful we text chatted for about 3.78 weeks and so I have just had to break this blog up into two posts:

Promo-Mentors – Discord Channel & Blog

This all began with a calling from the spark that is @starkerz. It was the legendary speech which @starkerz gave at Steemfest which highlighted the need to reward the platform promoters. @FutureThinker knew that for the platform to become mainstream there was a need to reward promoters – so @FutureThinker started to run contests and it was received with a great reaction from the community. Around this time the promo-mentors discord channel was set up & @futurethinker jumped on board to help and drive connections in the promo community in the knowledge that actively engaging and giving back is what helps the Steemit community to grow.

There are now over 1,000 members on the channel.

From some of my stats work I know there have been over 2,312 authors that have used the #promo-steem tag as their primary tag so there are still plenty of authors out their that need to join this discord community. AND let’s be honest there are some quality issues on the promo-steem tag – so it will be good if we can signpost people to the workshops run by promo-mentors when they need help to improve quality.

We discussed bandwidth as being a problem on new projects and I was pleased to hear that @futurethinker has a team of 15 + people helping: So, credit to all of them here:

The purpose of promo-mentors:

The aim of our community is simple: to provide a place where new Steemians, promoters and curators can communicate with each other and help each other out. In this community we value supporting each other, which is why there are opportunities for everybody.
Goal of the community: Helping newcomers to find their ideal blogging style by providing them guides, personal mentoring and workshops. We want to create a fun place to interact and a supportive community that helps everybody to grow, which in turn will accelerate the growth of Steemit.

One thing is for sure: the future of the promo-mentor community is in sound hands given the level of commitment and integrity to the mission shown by @futurethinker and his supportive team.

Education, Engagement & Projects

So, in the discord channel you will find things such as:

 Introduce Yourself Pages
 Post Feedback Education
 Workshops for newcomers, science, utopian-io, poetry and writing
 Discussion Lounges in Spanish and English

These all have the aims of education and engagement both really important for retention on the platform.

What comes through from my perusal of the promo-mentor community is that the "@futurethinker ethos" is a thread which runs through the heart of it. @futurethinker has set sights on helping people in the blockchain community and this mission does exactly that. @futurethinker is constantly thinking about the future of the community, technology, humanity, and the planet and knows that blockchain technology is a major part of all of our futures.

What came out of my discussion with @futurethinker was his passion for PROJECTS - I guess there is a sense of frustration across the community that there is a lot of investment in bots for ROI by the major stakeholders and so it is really left for the rest of the community to support and invest in projects which will actually add value to the blockchain.

One such project we discussed was the @leap8 project which just leaped off the page: the project is dPixify and you can find the latest news on the project to reward creative images using the Steem Blockchain here.

I have also text chatted with @Leap8 who has commended the promo-mentors community on the support he received with encouragement, advice and upvotes. @Leap8 is currently working connecting dPixify to steemit so that people can link their accounts and login and post from dpixify with steemconnect.

One of the beautiful things about projects is that they are not just for the people already here on Steemit but are a new gateway to attract newcomers onto the platform. We recognise how popular pixabay and unsplash are at the minute and hope the success of @leap8’s project brings new people to the platform to be rewarded for the creative output.

@FutureThinker was in the first cohort of Steemians to be appointed by the community as @Steem-Ambassadors. I charted the geo-location of the Steem-Ambassadors and was left with just one that I could not neatly pigeon hole into my three principle regions. So we are just left with the enigmatic @futurethinker looking after “The ETHER”…….
