Cryptocurrency Changing Lives for the Better in Philippines 1.jpg
This is my third in a series of blogs where I talk to a Crypto Enthusiast over Coffee.

Today I am writing about my inspirational conversation with Red Dayou @Steemitph.
Red Dayou @SteemitPh is based in Manilla he has been on Steemit since July 2017 and we had a video call over Discord with Crypto in mind and Coffee in hand. Red is actively involved in promoting Steem and Steemit in the Philippines and is heavily involved with the various committee and sub-committee’s involved in the well organised group of STEEMPH.

We covered loads of topics, which I am summarising here:

@SteemitPh in Manilla, Philippines & @CryptoCurator in the UK talking about:

  1. Steemit Meetup Caravan Tour – Promo-Steem Philippines
  2. Promoting Steem and Powering Up
  3. SteemNest
  4. Statistics / Utopian.io
  5. Changing Lives with Steem
  6. Peer 2 Peer Transactions

Steemit Meetup Caravan Tour – Promo-Steem Philippines

Steemit Caravan on Wheels.jpg

It was a really opportunistic time to speak to Red as he and his fellow Steemians had just completed their first stop on a tour aimed at promoting Steemit and Steem, meeting up with fellow Steemians and non-Steemians with a view educating, encouraging, and developing each other.

This is a well organised and impressive tour which deserves applause for the whole community of their putting the heart and soul into spreading the news of Steemit.

The first stop of this “Steepmit Caravan” was in Bulacan just North of Manilla. You can read more about this on @steemitph blog or here.

Some photo’s here:

This is a tremendous tour which encourages existing Steemians to join and bring non-Steemians with them:

The Tour will continue with planned visits to: Cavite, Laguna, Antipolo, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Baguio, Davao.

I wish them every success in recruiting more new active users to the platform!

Promoting Steem and Powering Up

Red has been actively involved in encouraging many people to join Steemit - it started with friends and family and snowballed from there. He has seen a high level of interest in students, those working from home, and parents who might only have a few hours per day spare between parenting responsibilities.

There does seem to be a focus in the promotional work to keep it targeted and high-quality enlightenment. A recognition I suppose that there is a perceived high barrier to entry with the learning curve and this is best overcome by spending the appropriate amount of time in the initial induction.

Red is taking a lead in encouraging others to powerup – he can see the long-term value and understands that the price of STEEM is destined to go North. Also through his analysis of various statistics from Steem SQL he has identified that a community will advance more with respect to reputation when they have more Steem Power and is encouraging other users to join in him in his power up challenge.

In some of my research for this blog I have noticed that the SteemPh community are using the Promo-Steem tag well but I’ve actually seen some excellent promotional work which might have earnt a higher payout if it had been tagged with promo-steem so I will have a blog on that topic in the future.

SteemNest

We discussed the Steemit learning curve and how he is encouraging valuable content creation with best in class style and formatting. They are delivering this message through the Caravan Tour and through the account @steemnest working together with @dandalion.

Here is a link to lesson 3 of a mini-series from which you can see the other lesson blogs.

Statistics / Utopian.io

Talking to Red it came across that we were both aficionados of Excel and he’s into his stats too. Red has gone one step further and is using the @arcange Steem SQL Database to generate data and then using excel and Power BI to analyse and present the data to really good effect.

So far Red has published phenomenal stats on the following countries: Nigeria, Philippines, Venezuela, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea and China. Here are two links to the detailed pages:

Nigeria
Philippines

Red is analysing data such as month on month post volumes, top categories used in that region, top authors, user base, and payout range.

You can follow the thread to the other countries from this blog post here.

Changing Lives with Steem and a “Helping Others Philosophy”

Steemit presents a significant opportunity for earning that the Steemian people of Philippines are taking advantage of. Forexample Red was telling me that:

"We have students in Cebu who have nearly a Million Pesos worth of Steem Power from posting in Steemit in their free time. Imagine what the platform can do for students who are struggling to pay for college fees."

Bearing in mind forexample that an annual salary for an Accountant in the Philippines is 20,000 pesos per annum – this is a huge transformational shift for the few bright souls jumping on the Steemian Bandwagon.

For relative and comparative purposes 1 million peso is just short of US$20,000 and is a life changing amount of money that some people will not earn in a lifetime.

This might not be a fair statement, but one thought occurred to me. If you are working on this global blockchain platform – it must mean that making the shift to be a fulltime Steemian in the Philippines is possibly an easier decision and one which could be highly rewarding in the context of the local economics.

Peer 2 Peer Transactions

At the end of our chat we touched upon whether there was any market for buying anything in Steem/ SBD locally even between peers, and it’s clear that we are still too early to have this conversation as nothing has gotten off the ground yet.

However, given the very high cost of transactions on bitcoin blockchain they are thinking of locally having a peer 2 peer mechanism to circumvent unnecessary fees, and allow users to cash out when they have to for living expenses.
