Crypto Coffee with @Samstickkz : TALKING STACH, STEEM LOVE NODE & BUYING BREAD WITH STEEM CURRENCY

in #promo-steem6 years ago

This is my second in a series of short blogs where I talk to a Crypto Enthusiast over Coffee

On this occasion it was a little different as I was speaking with @samstickkz who manages one of the STACH HUBS in Uyo, Nigeria over Discord. But we still had Crypto in mind and Coffee in hand.

We talked about many topics: which I am just going to summarise here:

Exec Summary Highlights (Read on for more detail)

  1. @samstickkz is Computer Scientist Graduate and he teaches his own university lecturers all about blockchain and crypto-currency (they actually come to his house for lessons)
  2. He manages STACH HUB in Uyo, along with a team of around 10 others, and has recruited many many Steemians into an area that might be the most densely populated Steemian Community!
  3. He spends earned SBD doing great work for the community including spending time and money gifting to an Orphanage
  4. He runs a run an escrow service for local students and Steemians
  5. He is just like me and wants to use his STEEM to buy bread in the future

Is Uyo in Nigeria the most densely populated Steemit User destination!?

Well I’m not sure of the answer but let me give you these numbers passed onto me by @samstickkz they have 400 Steemians in Uyo. This despite the STACH hub being open for less than 6 months and the population there being less than 60,000. This is hugely impressive and deserves a massive round of applause for the whole community working on this goal they call “decentralizing the online”. The promo-steem work going on here is tremendous.

Sam talks about Nigeria not being presented well in the global news and the fact that without good news investment is stifled. Steemit presents a massive opportunity that he is grasping with both hands.

The STACH project is a network of community innovation hubs. The first was in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, the second in Uyo near the Southern Coast. I have read ambitions to have 18 hubs across Nigeria. The Hub was the inventive idea (credit to @ejemai @donkeypong link below) to help young Nigerians have a place where they can identify, explore, and capitalise upon their creative tendencies. It is an opportunity to give the young people wings when they have had their wings clipped by conventional state education.

Sam was telling me that the 3rd STACH HUB will be opened in Ibadan, with launching within the next 3 weeks.

Steemit Blessings & Charity

With STEEMIT Sam has seen his earning potential multiply many times and his exponential earnings means he can now send 4 kids to school under a type of scholarship.

It’s not about personal wealth creation though, there is a great sense of Charitable giving and every month Sam visits a charity to spend some of the earned SBD. It was actually a post like this below which drew my attention to the impressive attitude of the STACH community and the power of STEEMIT.

#Promo-Steem and “The Steem Love Node”

Now this is interesting: when I asked some fairly mundane questions like:

  • What is the best way of promoting steemit locally to you?
  • How do you encourage people to sign up to Steemit?

The answer was so not in any way about a “sales led campaign" or a “marketing orientated business” it was 100% “human orientated”, and the response was totally refreshing.

Sam talked about promoting it from “inside out”, which I have interpreted as from the heart. He talked about the stach work orientated around what they call "steem love node". The have decided to promote steemit with their small amount of earnings by being loving, and then after this first motive, as a secondary consideration think about holding meetups and seminars.

Buying Bread With Steem

At the end of our chat we touched upon how great it will be when we can actually buy bread with STEEM currency. Now the question is can we make this happen, can we make it stick, can we make it rise (add yeast!) and can there be a systemic business that does this into perpetuity. Of course, the time will come, and it is probably not long before we hear about it.

Having more use cases of Steemit where we are transacting for goods and services is huge

At this point please can I refer to @pennsif , who I must try and connect with and perhaps enjoy CryptoCoffee Episode3!

@Pennsif has produced a list of Businesses accepting payment in steem. This is a link to the live Directory as @ 1 January 2018.
