SPU Poetry Contest #1: Where Am I?

in #poetsunited6 years ago (edited)

Good poetry can be inspiring and teach us the wisdoms of life. I attempt to do both in this piece for the first SPU Poetry Contest.

My Inspiration

Poetry Quote 2

if I only had a match to light
and see where I am now
wrong side of heaven
or righteous
depth of
hell?

Taken from the poem LOST, by @lymepoet.

Where Am I?

Tortured minds are self aware

Darkness begets darkness at night

Rights are wronged without light

Depths of Hades waiting... watching.

Illuminated minds are self aware

Darkness precedes the search for light

Light before the path to wisdom

Wisdom dawns on those who witness

Men crusade to reveal different plains

Dimly lit levels leveled out over life

Depending on the resounding presence

Or the glowing absence of their light.

Heaven's stairway has many big steps

Devil's deeds have too many regrets

Repetition makes permanent... practice

Throwing shade away or throwing clouds to rain.

Riotousness illuminated or blindly dark

Correct in pursuits of truth or lying hawk

Repair the mistakes by discovering the light

Wrong side of heaven... Lost with Hell to pay.

Thank you for reading my poem and please check out the other great entries into the SPU Poetry Contest. It is important for us to support great content that is original to the platform.... And supporting poets.  Thanks @poetrybyjeremy for doings this.

I've never been huge on poetry but I gave yours a shot. That first line alone already had me thinking. The more self aware you are the more you question everything. If you aren't self aware you would read that and just continue without really considering what it means. Throughout the poem depending on how you think you can view it in different ways. Pretty interesting. You have a creative mind I'll tell you that. Most people would get writers block. I'm sure it took you some time to create this poem

My man! Thank you for the kind words and especially giving my piece a chance. I really appreciate it man. I'm also so glad you caught on to what I was trying to do. I really do try to write with a duality. Depending on the person, really depends on what they get out of it. It is intentional and almost a byproduct at this point. I love writing poetry because of the freedom it allows for expression and communication. I can get away with things I could never get away with. I did spend some time on this... relative to how much time I spend on my poetry. I did write a complete poem I saved somewhere because it wasn't close enough to the topic. I wrote a new one and then went back and completely re-wrote the last two sections. So I spent more time on this than most. Thanks for the reply and again, thanks for reading.

I can imagine editing poems must be the biggest pain because you could think of other things. Great Job on the poem over all! I look forward to seeing you're future poems.

Yeah, I don't do it too often. Thanks for the support jason.

You must have spent a lot of time writing such deep words
Everything performing it's function "Darkness begets darkness at night"
Either enlightenment or torture, both make us more aware
Evil regrets on his deeds, Heaven have big steps to reach
What was the idea in your mind @walkingkeys before you started writing it?

Thanks, brother. To be honest, it took about 30 minutes. I typically have some kind of duality in each piece and this one I wanted Wisdom to be personified in a way. I normally do that. I don't know really, I just close my eyes and start writing. lol I feel like I always know what I want to say, but it's figuring out how to say it. I really appreciate the question and the feedback. You rock.

Thanks for appreciating. You did a good work.

I really enjoyed this piece - there are many lines that make me reflect; they make me go deeper than you words. That's something I like about poetry. Even when a poem is short, we are left with thought or emotions, and this successfully does that. I enjoyed that you went on with the duality of the prompt, yet, you made it your own.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. It means a lot coming from a great poet like yourself. I also appreciate the contest. I've read some entries and there are some amazing writers on here.
I love the duality approach and glad you picked up on it. I appreciate the kind words and taking the time to read.

It was my pleasure. Yeah, I've been reading through the entries today, and I'm already having hard decisions. There are some really good, high-quality poems, and the deadline is Sunday! It will be quite hard to judge in the end!

I really appreciate the work you put into it. Thanks for doing this.

Thank you very much!
