[POEM] Dandelion Seeds - Late Night Poetry [POETRY CONTEST - WIN $5 SBD] ~~5 Entries~~

in #poetrycontest7 years ago (edited)

Here I am with yet another Poem Writing Challenge.

The aim is to be given, or come up with a series
of seed words for a poem.

Any rhyme scheme is fine, just make sure to
include all seed words in the poem.

7 SEEDS: swift breeze, seeds, tomorrow, plight, frustrated, one way, Summer rain

Summer warmth comes but once per year,
as the Dandelion claims the scene.
They grow and spread and claim about,
for a full take-over they are keen.

The seeds they float on a humid swift breeze,
their journey's plight has just but begun.
Fear not little seedling, Summer rain will come,
begetting whole dozens from one.

Tomorrow is not just another day for you,
Finding yourself frustrated on your path.
Grow Dandelion, reach up to the sky
and bring that Yellow Wrath.

Come now it's time to wilt away and die
leaving hundreds in your wake.
Life is a bumpy one way street
An unforgiving give-and-take.

Here is my entry (from my namesake acct where I post all my poetry):

Today's California summer rain plants seeds of memory
Becoming a frustrated bloom of yesterday's storms.

The perfect thunderstorms of Ohio, humid with anticipation
They were deliberate, singular - almost historical
Rolling one way towards a clear horizon, a known horizon

But, I could never roll with them
I am a swift breeze that moves past without consideration
Disturbing the long-rooted plants in the fields - almost rudely
Driven here by the high pressures, the invisible forces
Guiding everything towards the muddy horizons of the present

I wait for the rain to end, for the drought to return
knowing tomorrow has no patience for my windy plight

Nice entry! A non-rhyming one already!

Cheers!

Thanks.

I'm not a huge fan of rhyming anymore, depending on the meter. Internal rhymes, alliteration and consonance are always fun though.

Good morning @somethingsubtle. Just letting you know the good news...

You've been chosen as the Late Night Poetry Contest Winner!

$5 SBD will be sent to your wallet shortly.

Thanks for entering.

Awesome. Thanks for the early morning surprise. Have a wonderful day!

Seeds fly high
when a swift breeze takes them
on a one-way flight
short or long,
landing here or there.
Sun, wind, and summer rain
determine their plight.
Today’s seeds,
Tomorrow’s flowers, and
the silent stone, frustrated:
another one bit the dust.

@carolkean Please add one more line to your poem so it has 12-20 line requirement!

Thanks for the fun contest!! Here's my entry: Solstice Rain

As we dance in the Summer rain
On this, our longest day
May we revel in this moment
Leaving our woes to lay

Although we may be frustrated
Time and again by life
Our journey is a one way path
Beauty entwined with strife

We are only mortal creatures
The swift breeze knows our plight
And we honor nature’s cycles
With this day’s solstice rite

So let’s rejoice and celebrate
The planted seeds of spring
The promise of tomorrow, and
The joy that it will bring

Thank you for your entry.

I really like it.

You're welcome and thank you!

On the swift breeze of change
Float seeds of hope
Tomorrow’s plight frustrated
On the slippery slope
Of buoyant expectations.
Tears have one way down but no way up.
Banished, a new day’s grief
I’m free to live and free to laugh
Time is a thief
But my heart is padlocked.
And joy is fresh like summer rain
Falling on the fertile ground of faith.

this poem reminds me of a cool breeze in a hot summer sooo refreshing keep up the good work :)

Thanks, you're sweet for saying that. <3

Second last line! Hehe.
