Cross Country Night Skiing in the Canadian Wilderness by Full Moon 📷
Cross Country Skiing at night is the best time I think to ski, especially on the day before a full moon. I was lucky to get out a couple nights ago after work to spend the evening (till midnight) out in the mountains, in the moonlight.
I took a few photos but considering it was -15°C, I only had a small camera, not a good DSLR, so the night shots just don't turn out too well. I was able to capture a few though!
These couple shots are pretty dark, but they were taken with just a long exposure so that captures the brightness in the sky. I'm squatting down here but got kind of shadows out by the trees. I really could see anything by the camera's LCD screen anyway.
This area is just beautiful at night by moonlight. We only used our headlights about half of the time, just on the downhills really so we wouldn't crash into the trees (as easily), since we still did on a couple fast hills. It was great fun though.
Here is a video with a few clips of skiing by headlamp. They are a bit dark, but also one shows following through the trees on a good downhill.
And finally, here is a GPS tracking showing our route, altitude, speed and other interesting stats. We stopped for a late night snack (or meal) for energy so this track includes about 40 minutes of extra time. If you are interested, this is from the app called, "Endomondo" which is a free mobile app to track all kinds of sports by GPS, which is really a great app, I use it for all my tracking.
