Castello di Gradara
-Warning long post- When looking trough my collection for a shot to make b&W for the #monomad challenge i try to attend daily I stumbled upon these castle shots I made on holiday a few years back. I picked one of the surrounding shots to enter the challenge but I had in mind to make a full post about the castle. So here we go.
Welcome to the 'Castello di Gradara' in Gradara Italy in the region Marche. A very well preserved castle with a surrounding historical village all protected by the castle walls.
Full shotShot of the castle taken from the wall
A tiny bit historical information:
It was build around 1150 by the mighty 'Di Griffio' family. For more historical information I would like to direct you to your favorite search engine and do some reading. Very interesting as the big Italian names like 'Sforza', 'de Della Rovere' , 'de Borgia' and 'de Medici' fought for this property.source
When we where there they where setting up for the annual fantasy festival: 'The Magic Castle Gradara' So the town entry was nicely decorated.
So on with the photo show. We start with some shots off and on the city wall as we walk towards the castle for a visit inside.
Lets have a look if there are any enemies at the gates. Small looing holes for the old guards.

Love this one with the cross and this sky behind it, and as a bonus a bird.

So now we move towards the castle for a little tour off the inside. Too bad I only have a few shots indoors as it was quite dark for the used camera.

Full shot No water in the moat.
Full shotWell dressed was quite a thing in the old days
Full shot'Secret' passage above the rooms

Now some last shots of the town with the festival decorations. So here ends the real historical tour.

very good contribution and very interesting. These constructions are so huge and still in a very good condition. Really impressive.
Thank you so much @yeaho! Indeed such impressive buildings filled with history. So glad that so many are preserved so well so we can wander around them, fantasizing how it must have been in the old days.

Oh, this is so nice to see the castle so well preserved. I always imagine what it would be to live in such castld. :-)
Thank you so much @nelinoeva for your visit and nice comment. I have the same indeed, what would it have been in the old days in such a place. Nice fact if you have ever seen the borgia serie this is the place where lucrezia Borgia's first husband lived. Such a great series about the corruption in the Vatican in older times.
