Little Monsters - Part 36: Black Back Paper Wasp with VIDEO!

in #photography7 years ago

I had a somewhat intimidating visitor this weekend! I've featured the Black Back Paper Wasp before in this series. Indeed the top image is from that post which I encourage you to check out for more photos of the wasp!

The new pictures are below!
We can clearly see where this wasp gets it's name!

Paper wasps build small cone shaped hives out of natural fibres, so what is it doing on the deck? It's stealing parts of my home to build its own!

Here it is starting to scrape a strip of fibre off the sun bleached edge of a board, I guess these fibres are easier to gather and make for better building material:

A few seconds later we can see the pale yellow of unbleached wood revealed by the wasps thievery!

Furthermore I was able to obtain a short video clip!

I'll definitely try to add more videos to my next posts.

I used the YouTube editor to make this short clip (sorry that's all the footage I had!) and it was relatively easy to do! There's even free to use music that you can add. I haven't tried out the cutting/pasting or effects tools yet, though it did seem fairly intuitive. I was most surprised with the image stabilization, one tick box and the video was much much smoother! Give it a try! The processing and rendering for the video all takes place in the cloud so there's no need for a beefy video card!

Comments and feedback are always welcome.

Great photography bro, but it ruined my appetite though :( !!

Thanks! I don't recommend trying to eat the wasp though...probably a bad idea for everyone involved!

ughh that didn't make me feel better.
lol

I have to stop after upvoting this because I know I've been on the screen for too long when I thought your title said black pepper crab.

Haha bet you were surprised to see a macro of a wasp rather than a delicious crab!

Great photography, Mark!

Thank you for your support @moataz!

Wow! I'm always amazed you're able to catch those things standing still!

Thank you! Photographer's secret: the ones that run away don't get photographed!
Though more seriously, I move really slow and have to have a lot of patience.
Thank you for your support @sykochica!
