LSCOTTPHOTOS Self-Portrait series - "Mirror Image" (Original Photo)

in #photography8 years ago

Third photo in my self-portrait series!

ISO 100, 32mm, 0ev, f/7.1, 1/6 Black&White

Shout out to @sulev for awesome editing skills! When I first took the photo, I knew it needed a LOT of post-processing help. Here is the original, unedited image.

I knew immediately that I wanted it in black&white and that the leaves on the mirror had to go somehow. So I did a little tweaking.

This is what I came up with. But before I could add it to my blog, I saw @sulev's post about "Editing your photos" and decided to give it a whirl. Thank goodness I did because when I saw the new version...

I wanted to scratch my old version right off the bat! I really do need to work on my creative skills because I hadn't even considered the different angles that I could play with!

It was perfect except for one thing... the leaf under my eye's reflection that I did not notice when taking the photo. Newbie move... So I took @sulev's version of my photo and tried to tweak it a tiny bit more.

I do not have quality photo editing software so I only retouched the area under my eye in order to blend the leaf away. If you zoom on the photo 100% you can see the blur, but I don't think it's too noticeable. I also lightened the black point and contrast just slightly to get the final result!

What do you think? Constructive criticism welcome and feedback appreciated as always!

Upvote if you like it!

Nice work. Your image, tells a story. Keep working on your post processing. I feel that is where the real art is. Taking an image and creating a story from your perspective, imagination and photographic style. Cheers.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback! I will definitely continue practicing with post processing

Nice picture. Pretty, with a hint of witch (I don't mean that in a negative way) that is not in the original B&W. I'm not sure which I like best, I prefer the composition in the last one but I think the level of contrast in the softer original B&W is closer to showing something about you as opposed to just being a good photo. But I may be wrong.

Thanks for the comment, I can't really choose a favorite either! I do prefer the composition of the tilted photo as well, but I agree that a softer B/W might be worth playing around with! That's why I slightly reduced the contrast and black point from the last photo to get the final result which is posted first! Perhaps I'll play with it some more :) P.S. I consider hint of witch a compliment! Thanks!

Your photos are very beautifully done. There's a lot of emotion held within them. The facial expression, the glazed glance and the gentle finger contact with the person in the mirror are all fascinating to me.

Thank you, I really appreciate it :D

The b&w are the best. The colored one misses a clear concept.

Thank you, I agree. I knew before even taking the picture that I was going to change it to BW! It just had that vibe lol
