Cobalt Blue Fumed Spoon Pipe with White Stringer Details Photo Shoot

in #photography7 years ago

I love my thick wall cobalt tube. It's about 1 inch in diameter, 5 foot long and the glass itself is about 4mm thick, so there's a good thick blue base for whatever I decide to make.  I've made spoon pipes, sherlocks, shot glasses and some other things out of this stuff in the past.  As I get used to blowing glass again, I experimented with it and made this cool pipe, one I'm actually pretty proud of.

I started by fuming a thin layer of silver onto the outside, which is where the slightly metallic speckle effect comes from.  Then I made stringers of white, literally just strings of glass smaller than a spagetti noodle but sectioned up similarly for easy holding. I love using those to draw on pieces, which is what I did here.

We didn't share much of my glass before partially because a crappy cell phone camera cannot do a piece justice the way my camera has done with these crappy pipes I've been sharing.

For anyone in Acapulco, this is for sale :) I'll also consider shipping if anyone reaaally wants this one.

I have always enjoyed watching glass blowers, when I was growing up in Cali. Various shades of blue or red are my favorite. Had I any use for that pipe you made, I would def buy it. It came out beautiful. I wish you luck on finding a buyer, and I hope they love the intricate work you did on it :-)

There are a lot of glassblowers in the US now, I can say I have similar memories about them and I grew up in Ohio. I was so enchanted, I knew then I was supposed to play with hot glass. Thanks for the love and support.

You are very welcome. Makes me miss the small town where the shops were. Some day I will scout around for ones out here. I could watch glassblowers for hours, just out of amazement. I hope maybe sometime, you post a few pictures with the progress of one?

That's definately in the plans. I have a few photos a friend took of me with my camera on the torch to share too.

Sweet, I look forward to seeing them.

I've always wanted to learn how to blow glass. This is gorgeous - I like how striking the white is against that beautiful blue. Lovely piece! Following & upvoted :)

I love that contrast. its very visually appealing

Nice piece of work a stylish pipe. I like it :)

Glass blowing is an intriguing art that few do. I love cobalt blue and have a few antique breakfast pitchers that color. Thanks for sharing, - Troy

Awesome work!
The design reminds me of Keith Harrings work.
Thanks for sharing and steem on :)
