Maldives Trip Day 6 - Reefs and Manta Rays

in #photography7 years ago

Today is another busy day, 4 dives! The three regular dives AND finally a night dive! This one will be awesome too, we'll diving with literally hundreds of sharks.. so stay tuned for that post. It will be coming in soon! Not sure yet, it will either be tomorrow or it will be the day after, it depends on how much video content I have on the next two dives, which I will be going through tonight!

Anyway, before that happens we have a few dives to go through, the first was Mahibadho Reef which was a great circular reef with lots of cool formations, tunnels, walls and gorges to swim through. They were absolutely teeming with marine life too. Like yellow fish? GOOD. This place has lots!

My favourite bit about this dive was that there were lots of cool formations and tunnels like the one below to swim through...

..the best it about it other than its just cool, is that the ceilings of these tunnels and overhangs have all the lively and colourful coral and marine life.

That was cool and all, but what was really cool was the next dive. We went to another manta cleaning station similar to the one I talked about in Maldives Trip Day 2 - Looking for Manta Rays. Only this one was much more active.

Instead of just one Manta Ray we saw several and they swam all over the place. We were closer to the station too so you can even see the little cleaner fish that swarm around the manta rays. But maybe its better if I let the video speak for itself:

Another making post, wow that school of yellow fish was huge and loved the video

Thanks mate, I never realised how difficult or time consuming making a video can be! :) I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I have no idea about the video making process to be honest I very seldom record any video

But it is worth the effort for Sure.

Amazing diving locations. But i think the water in The Red Sea is much more clear.

Oh for sure, but its because the Maldives have much stronger currents. Having said that the visibility was still between 10 - 20meters on almost every dive. I think my camera probably made it seem like the visibility is worse than it is..

Fantastic dive 🐟 ! I've never seen Manta's before apart from on a video. I'mm gonna have to hatch a plan to get over to the Maldives at some point in the not too distant future. Gr8 post 😃

do it! I cannot recommend it enough! We went with emperor liveaboards, the boat was great and they are are really good, though a little pricey. But yeah, Maldives is the place to go for mantas!

Hi @fiftysixnorth. I really want to go to the Maldives now. Mantas are something I have never encountered. Just wanted to let you know I have started a new channel on steemit.chat called #scubadiving which is dedicated to the marine world and all things scuba diving. It is a place to chat, share stories and promote scuba posts to other divers. Check out my post announcing it to the steemit community and swing on by if you fancy: https://steemit.com/steemit/@raj808/community-announcement-new-steemit-chat-channel-scubadiving

I recommend it, mantas are majestic creatures. I'll check out the chat channel that sounds interesting :)
