Vintage So this is another post about my Vintage Family Photos.

The background is:

I had been reorganizing the folders in my dropbox and stumbled upon a collection of vintage photographs of my moms. I few years back I had scanned a box of pictures that she had so that we would have a digital back up copy. The feeling I got when I opened the folder was similar to the feeling you get when you open up the box in the corner of the basement. What treasures lie inside!

This weeks photo

This time around I am posting a great picture of my Nana. That is what we called my grandmother on my moms side. She loved taking photos. Almost every time we went over to her place she had a camera out. She loved her Poloriad once she had it.

What I love about this photo is.... everything. I love how she is actually posing for the picture. I love the composition. I think my favourite part of the photo is actually the vintage look. I love how is has a white border around it and I love that the border is worn and dirty and aged.

The bridge in the background led me to add the tag #bridgesoftheworld which has been used recently by the members of #thealliance

Unfortunately I have no idea where this bridge was located. I am guessing that it is somewhere in southwestern Ontario, possibly along the Thames river. You can see rapids in the background but I dont recognize the bridge from anywhere in town.

I hope you have enjoyed this look into the past with me.

I would love to see your vintage family photos if you still have them!

I find it so fascinating to see these black and white souvenirs from the past. This one has a superb background, your nana was a beautiful lady, women looked so nice in these old pictures. I have a friend who collects old photos that have dogs and cats in them, it's funny to see the contrast between us people that wear all sorts of weird hats, glasses, clothes that make us look vintage and the pets that still look the same, as if they were photographed yesterday. It's awesome that you have kept these treasures for your son to be able to look at the family past and heritage, thank you for sharing this. I have a few pics but you just motivated me to go bug my dad to finish scanning that box of pictures!

Thanks, I seem to get that same response everytime I post one.
I just really enjoy them and am glad that it makes everyone remember their great old photos as well!
If you get some, you should tag me in it.
In fact I may have to start up some sort of a weekly Vintage Family Photo contest!

For sure! I will try to do a little something with those I have, got a few cool ones that could be interesting. Your contest idea is pure genius! It's never been done yet on steemit from what I know, the content and all the different history would be really interesting, I would participate for sure!!

Yep, I think it is a great idea.
I have decided that I am going to start something up. I have quite a few friends on here that post a lot of photography, so hopefully it can pick up some steem. lol

so cool you have all these old photos bringing back memories like this

This makes me want to ask my sister to go through our old family photos and send me a few

It is worth is to at least get them backed up to digital. They say family information always skips a generation. As a kid you dont always ask about your parents history but you are usually interested in your grandparents. Your parents have the same issue. So when you ask them, it may be too late. And when your kids ask about your parents, you may not know as much as you wish you did!

All good points
I did scan and save a ton of family photos onto a portable hard drive years ago but lost it on a move

My sister still has them so I must chat with her

Very cool. I love looking at the background details in pictures like this. For example, I was looking at the bridge thinking, "Do I know that bridge?" Also, what's she sitting on?

My sister recently scanned my father's entire slide collection from 1950 to 1990. She posted them all on Flickr. My father and my siblings regularly look at these pictures and post comments. Not only are the pictures captured, but now our conversations about the pictures are also preserved.

Even though I don't know you, I'd love to see more photos like this if you have any to share.

I try to put one up at least every couple of weeks.
I would really like to take the time to scan some more. My one uncle has a ton on my dads side that I would like to get my hands on. I have quite a few from my mom currently.
I also think the same things as you. I really wish I knew the location of this picture. I would try to recreate the shot if I could and send it to my mom!
Thanks for such a thought filled comment!

This is making me want to hunt down old pictures from my family. To be honest, I've only seen a few. Plus, I have legitimately never seen a photo of my dad as a kid... It before I was born for that matter. Now that I have a little one (another on the way), I'm just now thinking of things like this!

your perspective changes when you have kids of your own. I am thinking of sitting down with my mom and dad and recording them telling stories of their childhood and their parents

awww cute bro dad! thank you

With love,
