Why do you always miss the chance?

The “chance” is really a cliché topic.

When you mention about “chance,” many people will think of a famous saying "Chance favors only the prepared mind."
But do you really know what is the so-called "preparation"?

At the end of last year, many people are planning to change jobs, find a better job. My friend is no exception; he posted on Facebook said that he is ready to quit. If there is any good job, welcome to recommend.

Coincidentally, I know a company is recruiting, the position is quite suitable for this friend, so I shared the recruitment link with him, and he directly send a resume to the company.

A few weeks later, I ask him: “How? Have you got the job yet?"

My friend said: “Still looking”.

I asked: “Didn't you go to the company I recommended? Didn't they call you for an interview?”

My friend said: “I had my interview last week, they asked me to wait for notice. In the meantime, I will continue to send resume to other company.”

I did not say anything more, I then ask the company's manager, and he replied: “We did interview him, but feel that he is not suitable, after a few days, will only reply everyone.”

In my impression, my friend's working ability is quite good, so I asked what is the reason for rejection.

The manager explained that he was a little flurried when he came to the interview, he felt that he didn't know enough about the company, he was not proficient in business, and we asked some questions which he answered with ambiguity.

A few days later, my friend told me that he didn't pass the interview.

I comfort him; maybe they found a more suitable person, you don’t have to be sad, don’t rush to find a job, you will meet the right.

He still feels sad; he thinks he’s quite good, why he can’t find a satisfactory job?

In almost the same time, my former colleague also came to me, knowing that I had some experience in human resources and wanted to ask something.

This time, the company in which she was working was to be reorganized and abolish their departments, and there were other companies poach people and invite her to their companies.

I said, this is a good thing, your job is changing, there are new opportunities come to you, why not just go for it?

She said: “But I'm quite satisfied with my current job, although the department was abolished, I was not layoffs, I will be transferred to the creative department, which is a similar position.

I still advise her: “You can go to the new company and observe the situation, I think this is a good opportunity, it’s really a pity if you miss the opportunity.

She listened to my advice, and went to the new company for an interview, and then told me that she would think about it seriously.

One month has passed, I suddenly remembered this matter, went to ask about her recent situation, she said, “Still working in the old company, just changed position, now very busy.”

I asked, “Why didn't you go to the new company? Didn't you say it was good?”

She said: “They asked me twice, but I said I had to think again and I was wavering.”

She felt that although the current job is tiring, at least she adapted and also satisfied with the salary, get along well with colleagues, so job-hopping is quite a pity.

The new company's work seems relaxed, although the pay is higher, but need to adapt to the new environment, the company's staff does not look too friendly, worry that she can’t get along with them.

In short, there are pros and cons, and then she hesitated, finally decided to give it a try, but in the end, she was informed that the position she applied, already hired.

I said, well, it's a shame to waste such a good opportunity.

She said:”It’s a pity, but it is nothing, and now my current job is quite good, I also did not lose anything."

I said, this is wrong, in fact, you lose quite a lot.

After talking about these two recent events, let’s take a look at this sentence, “Chance favors only the prepared mind.”

What are preparations? How to prepare?

What many people understand about this is that the so-called preparation is about the ability.

But there are two layers in preparation: one is ability and the second is character.

The first story is about ability, which determines the direction of your life and responds directly to your career changes.

The ability can be divided into three categories:

If you have the ability, you don’t have to find a job yourself; the job will take the initiative to find you. If you have an average ability, you must go look for a job and choose a suitable one.
If you don’t have the ability, even if you send out 100 resumes, you won't be able to find a job.

Ability can also be divided into four aspects:

If you have qualifications, your education is the opportunity to the stepping stone, the higher the degree of opportunity, the higher the level.

Your requirements and the company's requirements are the same or close enough for the same position, the more matching the requirements, the greater the opportunity.

Job-hopping needs to have enough work experience; the employing company will look through your past experience will determine whether your requirements match.

If you job-hopping too frequent, will make your experience trivial, people will think you don’t work hard enough, and doubt that you can be qualified for the new job.

Many people's thought will end here, in fact, the so-called preparation, after you remove the ability, there is a second layer: character.

The second story is about character, have ability, all aspects of the conditions are not bad, but hesitant and indecisive, the opportunity will slip away.

You need to know that the opportunity will only wait for you for a moment, will not always stay for you, if you don’t have a little adventurous spirit, too complacent, then the opportunity that originally belongs to you will become others.

The so-called opportunity is a new attempt; it will not necessarily match your status quo, it will even have some temporary situation to let you deal with, make you overwhelmed.

But if you are too cowardly, not dare to accept, and can not face the challenge, always weigh the opportunity and the current ratio of gain and loss, always feel comfortable now, then you cannot accept the opportunity.

In my opinion, in the two aspects of preparation, character is much more important than ability.

An ability can be cultivated, but it is much more difficult to change character.

Every time you encounter some workplace problems, you can always see these words:

Why everyone can success after job-hopping, but not me? Why others can find a good job, but not me?

In other words, why others can seize the opportunity, but not me?

To be honest, you keep asking why, don’t you know why in your heart?

So, let's take these questions from a different angle:

Why is it you, not others, who miss the chance?

At this point, the answer is much clearer.

You are blind; you don’t deserve, you not dare.

The opportunity is clearly in front of you, but you did not see it, thought that it is a trap, cognitive ability is not strong enough. Always use a set of self-inertia thinking to look at new things, and miss out the opportunity, is this not blind?

You have the opportunity to try, but you don’t have the ability, you also anxious, seeing such a good opportunity slip away. You don’t have the ability, who can you blame?

Hesitate and think too much, think of if you choose the wrong choice, need to pay more price, the life now is stable, not dare to take a new step, scare that what to do if choose wrong. Why not think about what will happen if you choose right?

So, why you always can't find a good job, it’s either you don’t have the ability or lack of vision, or your character is too weak.

To solve it, we must break it one by one.

See - You have to be good at discerning opportunities, knowing that the odds are slim, so you need to improve yourself to cope with the coming of opportunity.

Catch it- The opportunity is in front of you, whether you have the determination to try, and have the ability to match, ability and character are indispensable.

Keep it tight- Got the opportunity is not the end, but you also need to keep it tight, change it into your experience and platform, help you grow faster.

At this point you may ask, what about luck? Does luck not count?
Of course, luck is also important, but it's not that important that you rely entirely on luck.

And, in the final analysis, luck is a kind of opportunity.
