* KEY to avoid digital DEMENTIA *
When we speak of digital dementia it is inevitable to refer to the German psychiatrist Manfred Spitzer. Thanks to his work, nowadays we know that this problem is nothing more and nothing less than the reduction of our cognitive abilities by the misuse of new technologies, in a similar way to how it occurs during the aging process.
Twenty years ago any similar investigation would have been called ridiculous. How is the human being to be dominated by digital media? A social animal, characterized by its ability to reason and innovation would never let itself be bent by this type of reality, or at least it is what was thought. However, bad technological habits have consequences that are gradually becoming visible. In fact, younger generations are much more susceptible to problems related to short-term memory.
Spitzer says that new technologies diminish the cognitive performance and memory of people who misuse them. In addition, it emphasizes that our brain functions in a certain sense like a muscle: if it is used, it grows and if it is not used, it atrophies. That is why stimulating and exercising our mind is so important.
The addiction to technologies causes digital dementia, that is, the reduction of our cognitive abilities.
How to prevent digital dementia
We live in a hyperconnected world. It is increasingly normal to find young children with mobile phones and computers or search Google for any term or doubt we have without first making any effort to reflect on it. Hence, digital dementia is increasing. Now, what can we do about it?
Set a schedule
Set a specific time to use the mobile. If you need it to work, try to respect your rest period (which is also very necessary). Try, for example, to be right after dinner or at a time when you have all your pending tasks done.
Do not forget to spend time with your family, friends or partner. Do not change your time with them to be aware of your social networks. This does not mean that you can not check your social networks, surf the internet or play a videogame, you can do it with moderation and balance.
"Technology is nothing. The important thing is that you have faith in people, that they are basically good and intelligent. "
-Steve Jobs-
Find a substitute hobby
Learn to play an instrument, sign up for Spanish classes or go to the gym. Find a healthy pastime that makes you forget your dependence on the digital world. If you can, try to make it a hobby that forces you to think and analyze.
No use of computer brain training games! Focus on the real world and exercises you can do with a pencil and paper. You can gather a group of friends or family and spend a fun evening with them.
Make plans outside the home
Go outside and enjoy nature. It does not matter if it's cold or raining: every season has something wonderful. Although you live in the city, there are certainly thousands of parks to be outdoors. It will be good for your lungs, but especially for your mind.
Although at first you do not feel like it, repeat this routine every day. Little by little your body and your brain will get used to it and you will want to have your daily little time in the sun or a few minutes in the rain.
Oblígate yourself to think
The next time you want to opt for the easy way, slow down. Ask yourself how you would have done it in the time when there was no internet. You will realize that there are many alternatives that do not have a technological device in between.
Do introspection and mature your opinion. Is it possible to get an answer without using Google? Is not it better to read a book from time to time? You must not let your brain rust! Every time we are going to live more years and we have to stay as active as possible.
Change the series for books
Watching series is a fun pastime, but it should not become your only activity. If you like to get away and immerse yourself in new stories try to pick up a book. Your sight will suffer less and your imagination will be reinforced.
Literature allows our creativity to increase and, therefore, develops a part of us that is quite asleep. Letting your inner child flourish is always a good choice.
Digital dementia is a scourge that increasingly affects more people. Fighting it is easy, but you have to do your part. Anyone you ask will tell you that after a hard day at work all he wants is to lie on the couch and start playing with his cell phone or watching a movie.
The use of new technologies routinely can become very dangerous. Try to spend outdoors at least an hour, both your body and your brain will thank you. And do not forget that limiting use to technological devices does not have to isolate you from others if you do not want to. Real life is much more interesting than digital life.
Amazing.....

nice post
I remember that in advance the mothers recriminated their children the hours they used the computer or cell phone, currently there is no distinction by evolutionary stage we are all connected the whole day we even develop dependence
