Committees - It's Time To Get Things Done

in #partiko5 years ago (edited)

If you were listening to @pennsif State of Steem show on MSP Waves yesterday, you might've heard a lot of talk about committees. I would like to extrapolate on this initiative.

(If you went MIA yesterday, you can listen to the whole discussion right here)

What Can/Should Committees Acomplish?

Whether it's a curation committee, an anti abuse one, or even a group of prominent Steemians trying to increase demand for our beloved token. A few issues arise on how to actually operate in that framework
1: how to make it the most efficient process (low time consuming)
And
2: and an effective one (best solutions found)

Now Several Questions Arise

a1: who is allowed in to the committee?
a2: usually the more people participate in a discussion, the lower is the quality of said discussion. If anyone is allowed in a committee, spam and pointless arguments are unavoidable.
But on the flip side, a lower number of participants may result in a small pool of ideas and solutions. A proper trade-off has to be made between this pro-con couple.
a3: a poosible trade-off configuration can be the following: a select few (5-7 Steemians) will hold private discussions & brainstorming, and will host an MSP Waves show, presenting their conclusions while having a discussion with a wider audience about said conclusions.
a4: for greater utilisation of Wisdom of the Crowds, the committe should have internal discussions about any post containing the relevant hashtag (e.g #CurationCommitteePost). This way innovative and profound ideas will penetrate the committee's bubble early on, and not only on the radio show (or at all).

Who's The Boss?

b1: who is in charge of forming and administrating the committees?
b2: that is probably the toughest decision we have to make in relation to the wider Steem community. Who the hell has the authority to make such a centralised decision?!
b3: a measurable criteria needs to chosen, for, hopefully, a fair authority recognition by the wider Steem audience.
b4: it can the X witnesses having to vote on who should manage each committe. Or the top x SP holders. Or even letting the founders of various Steem Apps to chose the leaders that should lead the problem solving effort of all the obstacles Steem is facing on its way to the moon.

A Committee Has More Than One Head

c1: say the administrator is chosen, what's next? Who will be the other 4-6 committee members?
c2: an idea that was proposed was to let each relevant community to send a representative to the committe. For instance in a curation committee every community that is focused in fairly distributing the reward pool (via upvotes) , let's say the 7 largest (most members/posts/SP stake/other) relevant community leaders will form the committee.
c3: a different option is to let the x top of y (witnesses/SP holders/Steem apps founders) chose the rest of the committee members as well.

What Is My Authoritah?

d1: OK, so have a bunch of ideas. Now what?
d2: whales, top 20 witnesses and non witness developers need to decide which resources should be dedicated to implementing those solutions. Either via voting power (positive if for work proposal, curation, etc'. Negative for fighting abuse), protocol modifications (to dedicate which portion of the reward pool will go to fund worker proposals) and pro-bono(ish) development to make the protocol changes, and associated tools that the committees think are necessary to better achieve their goals.

I Think I've Bored You Enough

To conclude, authority and formation of the committees need to be carefully decided by us Steemians. Please give your 2 cents (or even a dime) in the comments. There might be better ways to do this than what's written in this post, so any feedback and follow-up questions are much appreciated.

One final thought: I think that all the committees should present their conclusions + have the wider discussion on the same day on MSP Waves.
i.e
13:00-14:00 Steem Apps Committee Presentation
14:05-15:05 Abuse Fighting Committee Presentation
15:10-16:10 Curation Committee Presentation
16:15-17:15 Worker Proposals Committee Presentation
etc'
etc'

Come on! There needs to be a STEEM flag on the MOON! Where's our rocketship?!
