The trolley please!
My granny lived in a small village in the neighborhood of the city of Arnhem.
Arnhem is the capital city of the province of Gelderland.
She never learned how to drive a car. As she was younger she went by bike or walked. The distances she went by foot were far. I can remember as a little kid how fast she walked (she was a tall woman) and how I was a kid partly had to run to keep up with her pace.
I mainly saw her on dumping day (read: my parents want to get rid of me).
A day out with her was to the city of Arnhem. There were two ways to go over there. By bus or by trolley bus. Every time she asked "Bus or trolley?". She always became the same answer " Trolley!"
The trolley had something magic. Might be the wires or it hardly made a sound. It felt more as if you were floating. Pressing the button to get out was a great event too.
Till today Arnhem is trolley city of the Netherlands and already for 70 years! I believe it is also the only city where trolleys drive.
On September 5, 1949 the first trolley started in Arnhem city in the Netherland. The article written about the history of the trolley by "omroepgelderland" and the image source you find here

Dumping day, the very best day of the week. Mine was on Sunday when I was sent off to my aunt's house. Boy did I love it! We lived in a kip, she lived in a huge house in the poshest part of the city. I used to wish my parents would die of alcohol poisoning and I'd be sent to my aunt permanently;)
My granny lived in a huge house too . She was not the cuddle kind but also not mean and left you in peace. Free to write. The only task was to buy a half white bread sometimes feeding the geese. I always felt homesick back home even more in these very rare occassions I was dumped at my aunt. :(
Your aunt never asked you to stay? 💕
It is good to keep good memories alive. Greetings.
