I bought a new toy this weekend, so now I need to take it to the range....

Went to a local gun show this weekend and bought a duplicate Colt Army in 44 calibre. This pistol is black powder, so it is not considered a firearm.

I gave it a good home, and I enjoy shooting black powder.

Have you ever heard the phrase "don't go off half cocked"? The first safety on a firearm was to half cock the hammer, which locks up the trigger and the hammer. So if you go off half cocked, and get into a bind; the gun was locked up, and not functional.

In this picture, the pistol is half cocked, so it is inert. When I go to the range I'll show how to load this right, and how to shoot it.

Good times! This is considered a muzzle loader, and can be used to hunt with.

Even though that is a duplicate it's still a very nice looking piece.

Yes it is in perfect shape, will be fun to shoot! It is a good heavy load, well designed pistol.

I didn't know you could hunt with non-firearms.

Muzzle loader season....

I use a 50 cal black powder with a 4 power scope. I carry one of these so if I get a deer, it doesn't suffer as I reload. Don't want them to suffer!

:)>

I don't think I've ever seen a scope on a black powder rifle before.

It is just a 4 power. It came with the gun, but I am thinking about upgrading to a 4 power with larger optics.

I load this rifle with 110 grains, on a 50 cal sabbot round. I need to chronograph this load, so I can calculate drop for distance.

Yeah you do that sir smithlabs and then you and galenkp can discuss the technical data from your tests.

It is a nice well built gun, accurate out to distance!

I wonder if you would get a bunch of rude comments if you did a post about it..or have the libs given up on you?

Well liberals are idiots, and can NOT understand anything complex, so they avoid my posts. Using the old style firearms requires thought and care; Not something they are competent at doing....

When I get five minutes to rub up against ten, I'll do a post on this.

:)>

I shot some black powder stuff a while back, didn't have my own though. Was fun. Gave me a healthy respect for the buys and girls from yesteryear.

I have several, and I am building some flintlocks for extra fun. It make a person a better shooter, because it trains you to hold the target until the round is away.

They were real Men back then!

I really enjoyed the feeling of interaction I got with the firearm...As you say, even after the trigger-pull the operator needs to maintain the correct form...I also like the bang...wait for it...and wait for it...thud of the round...Much slower than modern projectiles. So much fun. You'll post about your builds I hope.

Just finishing a flint lock pistol, and still need to make the barrel for the rifle. The rest is done....

:)>

Fun Toy, easy build. I will need to rifle the barrel myself, should be interesting.

Just a backup, to the backup, to the backup; LOL!

:)>

Have you thought about a back up, to back up the back up, that backs up your primary? Lol

Who hasn't? LOL!

Primary is my Air rifle, then my standard ammunition firearms, then reloaded ammunition, them percussion Black Powder, then Flintlock black powder, to making my own Black powder.

Nuff backups?

Have have with the new toy😀
