Slasher: Solstice Review

in #palnet7 years ago (edited)

I watched Slasher Season 3 on Netflix without any prior knowledge of what it is all about. I didn't watch previous seasons, so I had no clue what I was about to watch. In the very first scene of the first episode, there was a cruel murder. It seemed to me an indistinct assault. And the first victim was dead.

Who is the Druid? Why is he killing people?

The Druid with a mask starts to kill people. It seems that there are some reasons behind the murder. Slasher Solstice has 8 episodes, each of which has a title with time. For instance, the first episode's title is "6:00 am ~ 9:00 am." A day is divided by 8, and each episode gets the corresponding titles. So, it feels that all 8 episodes together tell a story within a day, and there is a certain purpose of the Druid killing people. Slasher Solstice seems to invite the audience to the purpose of the murders. Finally, the audience comes to ask questions: Who is the Druid? Why is he killing people?

Peripheral nerve-stimulating murder scenes

For me, the identification of the Druid was not a big deal while watching Slasher: Solstice. I was so into the way and the cinematic description of the Druid's murders. How can I explain it? I have never felt an impulse of killing, but I just wanted to keep watching the way the Druid kills victims. I don't know why. It is just so addictive!

The murder scenes in Slasher: Solstice are so lively and realistic. The ways of killing are too brutal to feel comfortable with. With the advance of the special effects in movies, there is no limitation in the presentation of the brutality and barbarism of killing people in movies.

The most intense killing scene in Slasher: Solstice was, in my opinion, the one that happened at the last minutes of the third episode. The Druid kills the biology teacher on the experimental stand, reenacting the frog dissection on her. That was very shocking!

Is a murder capable of making justice?

Slasher: Solstice

Of course, it is a silly question. However, Slasher: Solstice feels like telling that sometimes a murder could make justice. At least, for the Druid, it is done for his justice. And the Druid perceives that the murder is the only means to achieve justice.

Sometimes, we witness a case in which there doesn't seem to be an alternative to achieve justice except for revenge. When we see a very young child got raped and killed by a brute-like jerk, do we believe that our judicial system can do justice? If it was done to my family, could I let the judicial system do justice for me?
