The Old Dog Reports: In Africa, Steemit is Changing One Life At A Time. Meet @fisteganos

in #nigeria7 years ago

I am so excited! I just got off of a FaceTime call with @fisteganos. He's the Steemit member that completed my 50 SBD transcription gig! He did a fabulous job and he deserves all of the success in the world!

The Old Dog Decides: It's Time To get Serious! Let's Up The Ante! 50 SBD Steem Gig!

The Old Dog Presents: My Gift to The Community. A Transcript of Dan's Awesome Interview Where He Lauds Steemit!

50 SBD is worth $86.50 as I write this. Not bad here in Europe or North America but for @fisteganos, who lives in Lagos Nigeria it's life changing! Let's see why as we examine the facts!

@fisteganos is a great guy! He's humble, very bright, he's got a sharp wit and he considers himself blessed to have found Steemit by accident. You see, he was already blogging because he loves writing but with Steemit he's living a dream! Check out @fisteganos's blog. He knows how to paint pictures with words and looks deeply into himself and bares his soul!

How Life Changing Are Steemit Economics To a Steemer in Nigeria?

Let me give you just the basics because @fisteganos is going to let you in on the story behind the story in his next post!

  • The minimum salary in Nigeria is about 18,000 Naira a month and there are 300 Naira to the Dollar
  • That makes the minimum wage about $60 a month.
  • After getting ripped off on exchanging his SBD he was left with 32,023 Naira (should have been 40,000 he said)
  • Friends, 32,000 Naira is close to two months minimum wage in Nigeria!
  • @fisteganos has also earned SBD's by doing graphics jobs for fellow Steemers! This guy's a talent!
  • @fisteganos has an income stream by blogging!!!!! How cool is that!

Here's What Some More Research Shows!

The latest survey, provided by SalarySurvey, shows the statistics of salaries in Nigeria.  According to the study there are 23 job categories with different salary rates. According to the estimates, the average yearly salary in Nigeria is 658,324 NGN (USD3,596), with the maximum of 5,000,000 NGN (USD27,320) and the minimum of 37,000 NGN (USD202). Source

Of course That's if you have a job!

Check Out @fisteganos's Steemit Wallet As He Strives to Live His Dream of Writing!

Check it out: @fisteganos has accumulated a value of $1618.44 in his wallet. That's almost half the average yearly salary in Nigeria. Keep in mind that he's been spending his earnings all along as he did with his 50 SBD earnings!

What is The Moral of The Story!

I meet a lot of Nigerians passing through Switzerland. They are strong, courageous, joyful, industrious and very spiritual. They would love to be back home but they came to Europe in search of work. In search of a better life! Almost always their search ends in despair, their dreams shattered. @fisteganos is at home fighting to make a living and having fun doing it! Bravo @fisteganos bravo!

What Do You Think?

  • Can Steemit change more and more lives?
  • Can you use steemgigs, gifting and following to help others?
  • Are you excited about what Steemit can do in countries that are less advantaged economically?

hi @kus-knee, the video editing one, is that done yet?

No the video editing job should be ready for Monday if all goes as planned. Actually you would have been great for that.

Wow. I'm missing all the action. As the first Nigerian to be on Steemit, it's so amazing to see you guys @fisteganos @oluwoleolaide @trillex @ogoowinner @ogochukwu blossoming on Steemit . You guys are all awesome.

I remember being one of the few Africans last year June. It's nice to Steemit being discovered by others...

@kus-knee . Thanks for writing this post. Reminds me of how Steemit turned my life around.
@stellabelle. We both know you rock ;)
@steemgigs - your zeal inspires :)

@oluwoleolaide @fisteganos I'm minutes away from you guys. Closer than you think. If you guys ever need any help organizing Lagos Steemit Meetup, pls holla at me. I wouldn't mind footing all bills(advertising and refreshment et al) . I'm bad at social events so its the least I can do.

We (Nigerians) should probably all gather in a steemit.chat group. If y'all interested, I can get that created very soon.

Hey! I'm just seeing this. Following you already. Would be nice to meetup with you soon. Creating the channel will also be a nice thing.

🙌🙌🙌 the idea sounds very interesting!!! We have couple of other Nigerians on here....still trying to understand how the whole thing works @infovore
Thanks for the kind words

Yes the meet-up needs to happen. If I can help in any way that would be great.

That will be awesome, i won't mind visiting from Enugu @infovore

Wow thank you so much :)

When unemployment gets high enough, the only jobs available tend to be terrible (I'm not from Nigeria but I think that's true worldwide). I'm glad that Steemit can give people a much better alternative and with success stories like this, more and more people will get onboard. That's not just good for Steemians, that's good for the world.

You bring up some good points. Your comments are precious!

Thanks (for sharing the story as well)!

Just followed you. Writer, artist and singer how could I not!

Thank you :D (I've just followed you as well)!

That would be awesome, maybe we can meet up when you come here.

Cool. Will put that in mind!

I smell the change in the air!! I love to follow and upvote for help. Steemit is the SUN which is coming out after a very long and ugly storm all over the world (as in your previous article). Great job @kus-knee :))

Yes, it was such a pleasure for me to work with @fisteganos! Did you see his latest post about our experience?

Very thank you!

Incredible. Steemit can create an actual Nigerian prince, one post and one vote at a time.

Congratulations on the hard work and dedication @fisteganos

Yes he's getting there!

Haha!!! There are actual Nigerian princes tho! Too many of them. (That's in the sense of being rich af!) but yeah, i'm on my way there!

Thanks a lot! :)

Steemit can be life changing also for the countries like my India, where unemployment is a burning problem..

Are you in India? I'm in good contact with @funnyman Try and connnect with him as he's been at this for a while!

Yeah @kus-knee ..Glad to know.. i'm from Assam.. From which city do you belong, @funnyman ?

Not sure if he'll see this but just leave a comment on his blog or pm him in steemit.chat

Alright .. I'll catch him at steemit.chat .. Thank you :)

Drop me a line there two maybe we can do something together in the future. I worked on a post with @funnyman and it was a lot of fun and very successful!

I am from India as well. In fact me and @iamsgr used to be room mates :p

That is very cool! Let's see if we can do a project together in the future. Let me dig into your blog some more!

Sure why not. I'd love to work with you :)

This is brilliant. It makes me very excited for the development of the lives of individuals. Being able to reward people for their original content and having that translate directly into the real world is what it's all about.

Let's continue to support a healthier distribution of wealth :)

Keep on steeming on.

Your right. We have the chance to make a difference!

This:

Let's continue to support a healthier distribution of wealth :)

Such a good post to read. So happy! :)

That's it! So many people believe that they are powerless and one individual cannot make a change. However, this is not the case. The more we become empowered and realise our potentials, the more we are able to re-write the whole economic system (that may be a little while away, but it's okay to dream haha).
