Steemit Lotto Weekly - The rules explained

In this post, I will be explaining the rules of the Steemit Lotto game in more details so that every participants understands them. Don't worry, the rules are really simple 😎 

The game itself

The Steemit Lotto is a weekly game that runs every Sunday at around 19 00 (GMT). The game consists of guessing 6 correct numbers between 1 to 40 inclusive. Then on Sunday, I will use random.org service to generate 6 random numbers for me as they generate true randomness using the atmospheric noise, more on that later . The participant who is able to guess all the 6 numbers wins the current pot size and the SBD reward of the post on the 7th day expiry.

If there is more that 1 participant who is able to guess the correct numbers, the total reward is divided among them. Guessing 6 right numbers every time can be difficult and that is why there are prices for those participants who are able to guess 5 correct numbers and 4 correct numbers.

The price for guessing 5 numbers correctly is 2 SBD. If there is more than 1 winner, the 2 SBD reward is divided among all the winners.

The price for guessing 4 numbers correctly is 1 SBD. If there is more than 1 winner, the 1 SBD reward is divided among all the winners.

The total of 3 SBD to be distributed among the winners of 5 and 4 correct answers will be subtracted from the pot before rewarding the winner of the 6 correct numbers. In the future I can increase the reward for the winners of 5 and 4 correct guesses!

The game is awesome but how do I play?

To play it is very simple! Just write a comment with your combinations of 6 numbers like this: 1-10-23-35-36-40. Separate the numbers using a dash in between. You are allowed 3 entries each week.

When can I play?

You have a whole week to play from Sunday till next Sunday at the payout time of the post. You cannot edit your entry. If ever you think you made a mistake, write a new comment or reply to your previous comment stating to disregard your previous entry and then write your new entry.

How many guesses can I make?

You can make 3 sets of guesses maximum. You write all 3 entries in a single comment as in the screenshot below.

What makes your entry invalid?

There are several ways that can void your participation but I won't let this happen! I check every entry manually and will write a comment stating if the entry is valid or what you have done wrong so that you can correct it.

• If you are not using dash (-) to separate your numbers. If by mistake you use space or any other characters to separate the numbers your entry will be void. The dash (-) between the numbers have been chosen for ease of finding a winner and when using spaces, sometimes a participant can insert 2 or more spaces which makes calculating the results more complicated. I am a human, at least for now, and I don't want to make mistakes when distributing the prices.
• If you write a number which is not between 1 and 40 inclusive, then your entry will be void. This is a pretty obvious one :)
• If you write more than 3 entries, your participation will be void for that week. I will explaining this later in this post.

Can I repeat a number?

No. If ever you write the same number twice, I will inform you with a comment to your entry. If you do not change it before the deadline then your entry will be void. E.g  10-10-12-20-22-35 is an invalid entry as there is the number 10 which is repeated twice.

If you wrote 3 entries, only the wrong entry will be disregarded. The other 2 entries would still remain valid.

How to be eligible?

• Upvote the weekly game post. This will help grow the pot size and you will be getting a bigger reward! If there is no winner, the SBD reward of the post will be added to the pot and the next week's minimum payout will be even bigger.
• Write your 3 entries in a single comment. This allows for less mistakes and makes calculating the results easier.

Why random.org?

Random.org uses atmospheric noise to generate randomness. What this means is that they have radio antennas installed at various locations and the atmospheric data is used to generate randomness. This can be said as truly random as it is difficult to predict atmospheric conditions like wind, heat, rain, pressure, etc. On the other hand, the software that use the computer processor to generate random numbers is not totally random as there is an algorithm behind and with time and enough power, the result can be predicted.

Why only 3 entries?

To find the winner for the 6 correct guess is very easy. On the other hand, finding the winner for the 5 correct answers and 4 correct answers is time consuming and difficult to do manually. To check for 5 correct answers, there are 6 possibilities per entry. The maths goes like this:

Assuming 100 participants making 3 entries each, this makes 300 entries. To check if the person has guessed 5 correct numbers, there are 6 possibilities per entry. This makes me having to check 300 * 6 = 1800 possibilities. Doing this manually can lead to many errors.

To check if the person has guessed 4 correct answers, there are 16 possibilities per entry. This makes me having to check 300 * 16 = 4800 possibilities.

In total, if there are 100 participants, I will need to check the entries 4800 + 1800 = 6600 times. When I started the game, I didn't take this problem of calculating the results. I am sure to be making errors if I do this manually.
