The Most Awarded Video Game of All Time Turns 2 years old Today!

Greetings Steemit,

It's kinda a special day in the gaming world.

Gaming Studio: CD Projekt Red's MASTERPIECE 'The Witcher 3' turns 2 years old today!

This video game is the 'most awarded video game of all time', winning over 800 awards - and is the highest rated PC game ever on Metacritic.

I've personally been cracking out on this game all year, with over 130+ hours clocked since January. Its basically like playing an episode of 'Game of Thrones'.. but bigger & better.

  • Per Wikipedia:
"The game is the third in the series, preceded by The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which are based on the series of fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Played in an open world third-person perspective, players control protagonist Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a witcher, who seeks to find his adopted daughter on the run from the "Wild Hunt", an otherworldly force determined to capture and utilize her powers. "

Now I've played a lot of video games in my day, so I feel like I have some 'perspective' as to what is or is not a decent game worth playing. As a testament to that confidence - here is the value/playtime of just my Steam account (Yes, that's: S . T .E . A . M . ) not including my Origin, Uplay, GoG, LoL, or DRM-free stand alone game(s) account info.

The Witcher 3 took over 3.5 years to produce w/ over 1500 people involved in the project. And all that time & creative effort is noticed when playing this game, as the level of detail in both the game world as well as the story telling is 'pristine'.

The Base game & First expansion pack sets you in a world that is mostly torn asunder from War. Parts are still in tact with beautiful countryside, while other areas are decimated and destroyed. Here is a preview video of that world.

The last expansion then teleports you to the new land of 'Toussaint' which has been left untouched by the Wars of the North. After 90-100 hours of marching through the stormy lands of death & war - you now find yourself in a fairy tale picture perfect land which has an unexpected yet prominent contrast psychologically - that feels like you can simply relax a little bit & just coast to the ending of this epic story you've spent several months of your life experiencing. Here is a short clip displaying the stunning beauty of the land of 'Toussaint'.

In my opinion: This game absolutely lives up to all the hype! The world the developers created for this game feels more 'alive' than any other online game environment I've experienced before. The story is enthralling once it gets going, and the main protagonist 'Gerlalt' is quite simply a Badass.

In fact - the story is so fetching - that the books are now being developed into a series by Netflix Studios.

Sooooooooooo yeah, just thought a little celebration post was in order. If there ever was a video game you should pick up and give a whirl should the mood strike - my vote is a resounding "Witcher 3 is the one!"

In fact: after perusing through videos & links the last hour for this post, I now know EXACTLY what I'm doing this evening when free for friday fun time before MMA starts. Rawr.

holy crap youre right!

Somehow I thought it was a year max :D

Excellent background explanation on a stellar game. I've yet to try out the expansions but currently playing Horizon Dawn and it reminds of Witcher's unprecedented open-world polish.

Both expansions are as well produced as the base game is. The 1st Hearts of Stone expansion is currently the highest rated product on Steem. The 2nd expansion Blood & Wine is just simply.. a masterpiece. I can think of no more fitting ending to such an epic game. Its perfect.
