Australian White Ibis

in #nature7 years ago

This is the Australian White Ibis, Threskiornis molucca. These are common in northern and eastern Australia where they can even be found in city parks. They are also increasing their range into the west. However only very rarely does a vagrant turn up here in Tasmania. I photographed these ones on my trip to the mainland earlier this month.

Such super shots of it a beautiful bird

Thanks. Glad you like them.

Incredible bird! Love the black and white feathers on his tail.

Thanks. He could do with some black and white feathers on his head too :-)

Hehe less hassle with bold head ;)

I like the straw necked Ibis more than the white ones. They have taken advantage of our human waste and modified environments to thrive in massive numbers here in SEQLD. They even beat out the seagulls chasing spare chips at the beach.

I remember one eyeing off my sandwich in Hyde Park, Sydney years ago :-) Ibis and gulls take the rap a bit for our own wastefulness and mess. They are simply cleaning up our rubbish :-)

I've seen the blighters steal sausages off a hot BBQ but love that they give the gulls some serious competition in the scavenging stakes.

They are a lot different than the ones here in Florida.

Is that the American white ibis you get there? I notice it has feathers on it's head unlike this one.
