Bringing Plants In To Promote Health And Happiness

in #nature6 years ago

It has been said many times that houseplants are good for your health. Several studies have suggested that indoor plants can provide a number of benefits: help to purify the air, boost energy levels and productivity, elevate your mood, reduce stress, and more.

Research suggests that having indoor plants can provide us with better health and happiness, they aren't just for decor.

Some plants have been identified specifically for their purifying abilities and ability to remove airborne pollutants, such as the Boston Fern or Golden Pothos which is also referred to as devil's ivy, but there are many easily maintained options that are suggested to help not only clean the air but also might possibly help to make you happier and healthier.

When we see nature and greenery it often helps us to feel more calm and peaceful. Surrounding ourselves with more greenery could bring a myriad of potential benefits to our life. Researchers have previously found that increasing our daily exposure to trees and plants might help to promote longevity. Previous studies have found that for those who live near a decent amount of greenery that they had between a 8-12 percent decrease risk of death.

It's difficult to know how many plants might be needed to clean the air in a certain space, though researchers have previously suggested that having at least 2 plants per 100 square feet might be sufficient.

Those who are skeptical of the claims about plants drastically purifying the air in your home have noted that those cases have been under controlled laboratory settings and that it's difficult to determine how effective the air purification is and the resulting benefits. There are questions as to how effective the plants might be at cleaning the air in such an open space as your home or office.

One recent study from the University of Reading, with help from others, discovered that indoor plants can help to boost health by improving air quality and reducing the risk of dry skin.

They recommended having a peace lily or ivy to try and reap the benefits, asserting that they performed the best.

Aside from cleaning the air around us, it's also believed that indoor plants can help to promote happiness and better overall well-being. So whether you are scattering plants around your indoor living space or you are striving to boost your daily exposure to greenery, it's clear that there are many potential benefits to be reaped from incorporating more greenery into our lives.

I just moved and the first order of business was getting sooo many houseplants. It doesn’t quite feel like home to me unless there’s at least a few in each room. It also doesn’t help that there’s a nursery a few blocks away that’s super affordable and they get new plants every Thursday - TROUBLE. Love this article, thank you for sharing!

thank you for your feedback ✌:)

Oh, thanks for this!! My husband dreads the October bringing-in of the potted plants, but last winter, as little spiders and other bugs came out of hiding, I found the plants entertaining as well as mood-brightening on many a cold gray winter day. A ladybug inspired a haiku. Yes, the plants are messy (blossoms fall to the floor, dirt and water leak), and they crowd our sun room all winter long, but now I can show Tim your post and justify this little mess of mine. :)

i forgot about what a mess they can be at times, especially if you have pets that like to get into them like i do😂

Good Post DIT...

The link below is for the book called "Primary Perception" by Cleve Backster

https://www.amazon.com/Primary-Perception-Biocommunication-Plants-Living/dp/0966435435

Backster's work was the foundation for another book called "The Secret Life of Plants: a Fascinating Account of the Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Relations Between Plants and Man"

I had the honor + pleasure to meet Cleve Backster at both his office + his home several times because I was a long time friend of his assistant, who actually wrote his book because his health was diminishing by the time the book was published.

Thanks Again for writing about these topics...

Cheers !!
