There are people who throughout their lives hold very firm positions regarding their principles and beliefs, people who, under those circumstances, become worthy examples to admire and emulate.

Jesús Sevillano, is one of those people. Although a doctor by profession, and it is worth saying with great prestige as an obstetrician, has become a benchmark of Venezuelan popular music.

His beginnings in music are in the field of lyrical singing and it is precisely as a tenor that he comes to stand out and be recognized. He was part of the legendary Orfeón Universitario de la UCV ](University Choir of the Central University of Venezuela) and it is precisely there that he becomes the proposal to be part of a vocal musical project that was later called "Quinteto Contrapunto" about whom I spoke to in my post El Quinteto Contrapunto in #mymusic [English - Español - Deutsch].

It is precisely there where the name of Sevillano begins to transcend our borders, with the avant-garde work of this Venezuelan group.

Sevillano was the tenor during the entire existence of the group, including the return they made after 27 years. And he participated in all the discography of the group.

But since the beginning of the quintet, Sevillano has been carving out a name as a soloist, as he was regularly invited to participate as a guest soloist in the aforementioned Orfeón. That career, finished taking flight after the death of Rafael Suárez, that marked the end of a cycle of the Quinteto Contrapunto.

From then on, the name of Jesús Sevillano became more and more present, at the level of radio stations that supported national music, such as presentations and recordings.

Although of classical school, his dedication to the music of traditional Venezuelan root has been almost absolute. Which can be seen in his discography that includes 15 studio albums.

Dedicated to diplomacy for many years, has not abandoned his musical career, which is still active and has also allowed him to make productions in the places where he has been fulfilling functions. Such is the case of the album recorded in the Symphonic Hall of the imposing Auditorium of Tenerife, while serving as Consul of Venezuela in the Canary Islands.

A defender of Venezuelan music, Sevillano knew how to conquer the heart of an entire country that came to consider him the best tenor in the Venezuela. From that feeling he has been projected to the rest of the world.

Hay personas que durante toda su vida mantienen posiciones muy firmes en cuanto a sus principios y creencias, gente que, bajo esas circunstancias se convierten en ejemplos dignos de admirar y de emular.

Jesús Sevillano, es una de esas personas. Aunque médico de profesión, y valga decir con un gran prestigio como obstetra, se ha convertido en un referente de la música popular venezolana.

Sus inicios en la música son en el campo del canto lírico y es precisamente como tenor que llega a destacar y a ser reconocido. Formó parte del legendario Orfeón Universitario de la Universidad Central de Venezuela y es precisamente de allí que le viene la proposición de formar parte de un proyecto musical vocal que más adelante se llamó “Quinteto Contrapunto” y del cual les hablé en mi post El Quinteto Contrapunto in #mymusic [English - Español – Deutsch].

Es precisamente allí donde el nombre de Sevillano empieza a trascender nuestras fronteras, con el trabajo vanguardista de esta agrupación venezolana.

Sevillano fue el tenor durante toda la existencia del grupo, incluyendo el retorno que hicieron luego de 27 años. Y participó en toda la discografía del grupo.

Pero desde el comienzo del quinteto, Sevillano se fue labrando un nombre como solista, pues era invitado regularmente a participar como solista invitado en el Orfeón antes mencionado. Esa carrera, terminó de tomar vuelo luego de la muerte de Rafael Suárez, que marcó el fin de un ciclo del Quinteto Contrapunto.

A partir de allí el nombre de Jesús Sevillano se fue haciendo cada vez más presente, a nivel de las emisoras de radio que apoyaban la música nacional, como de presentaciones y la grabación de discos.

Aunque de escuela clásica, su dedicación a la música de raíz tradicional venezolana ha sido casi absoluta. Lo cual se puede comprobar en su discografía que incluye 15 discos de estudio.

Dedicado a la diplomacia desde hace muchos años, no ha abandona su carrera musical, la cual sigue activa y además le ha permitido hacer producciones en los sitios en los que ha estado cumpliendo funciones. Tal es el caso del disco grabado íntegro en la Sala Sinfónica del imponente Auditorio de Tenerife, mientras ejercía en calidad de Cónsul de Venezuela en las Islas Canarias.

Defensor a ultranza de la música venezolana, Sevillano supo conquistar el corazón de todo un país que lo llegó a considerar el mejor tenor del país. Desde ese sentimiento ha sido proyectado al resto del mundo.
