My California - Bear Mountain
For this weeks Show Us Your California contest by @socalsteemit I take you to another beautiful ski resort in the San Bernardino mountains...
Bear Mountain!!
In my last two entries I showed you Snow Valley and Snow Summit. The last of the three ski areas in the San Bernardino mountains is Bear Mountain. Bear Mountain was first opened in 1943 as the Moonridge Ski Area on Goldmine Mountain. In 1988 a major ski area operator bought Goldmine Mountain and changed its name to Bear Mountain. They invested millions of dollars in improvements to compete against nearby Snow Summit. But in 2002 Snow Summit purchased Bear Mountain and the two mountains became one resort. The Big Bear Mountain Resorts.

Big Bear Mountain Resorts close proximity to Big Bear Lake allows them to use the water from the lake for making snow, giving them the ability to keep the slopes covered with snow even at times when there is not much natural snow. The mountains base elevation is 7,140' and the summit elevation is 8,805'. They operate 8 chairlifts and have lots of different terrain for all skill levels from beginners to experts. I personally really like the runs on chair 4 they are all usually really awesome! But my favorite is probably the longest steepest run, a 1.5 mile long double black diamond run called Geronimo!

The snow in the San Bernardino mountains this winter has been pretty decent and so far I've gone snowboarding three times. I'm hoping to get some more trips in up there. But next I'm planning a week long trip to Mammoth Mountain in the Sierra Nevada mountains! So stay tuned for that!!
I hope you have enjoyed this weeks glimpse into My California!

Amazing, the pictures are great and inviting.
Thank you @rebeccaasseh!
Such a gorgeous place and love that awesome selfie. It is also amazing how they make snow from the lake to keep the fun going.
Gotta have at least 1 selfie. It's just mandatory. lol. Having the lake there to make snow has made Big Bear mountain resorts the most popular ski resort in SoCal. It really makes a difference because often here in SoCal the winters are short and mild. So when the other resorts are struggling because of a lack of natural snow Big Bear can keep operating throughout the entire winter!
Such a beautiful place!!
Yes it is! Especially when there's a bunch of snow!
Yes indeed!

Want to have your post on the map too?
Looks a great Place for skiing and very popular
It is both for sure. Between having 2 mountains combined in one resort and having Big Bear lake available for snowmaking the Big Bear Mountain resorts is by far the most popular ski resort in Southern California.
I used to sky a bit back in my 20's, but never on a resort as big as that, my knees cannot take it anymore so if I visited I would want to find a nice indoor lounge with a good view :)

This brought back memories of my trip to Bear mountain when I was stationed in Cali, 2004, although I remember it being called "Big Bear Mountain".
Edit: "After rereading the post a bit more thoroughly, I see you explained what happened in 2002 with Snow Summit. Sorry for the bit of negligence there.."
Thanks for the nostalgia!
All good. lol. Since 2002 the 2 mountains combined are known as Big Bear Mountain Resorts. Glad I could bring back some good memories for ya!
