Padauk Flower

‘Padauk Pan’ or Padauk flower is the national flower of Myanmar.It’s binomial name is ‘Pterocarpus macrocarpus’. The color of Padauk flower is yellow and it blossoms in very tiny fragrant. The Padauk flower bloom in the spring annually and this flower is associated with the Myanmar New Year or Myanmar water festival (Thingyun festival).

We normally can see the flowers in mid-april of the spring.And Padauk flower is the sign of the Myanmar New Year: Thingyun festival or water festival. When it is time to bloom, Padauk Pan or Padauk flower are bloomed all over the regions of Myanmar. All of the streets,roads and conor are covered by the color of yellow.

Most of Myanmar people consider the Padauk flower as the symbol as Love,loyalty and unchanging. There is a popular Burmese saying that ‘Ta yoke so Ta yoke, Padauk so Padauk’. It means that my love is loyal same to Padauk flower and the padauk flower also never blooms two times in a year.

So Myanmar youths usually give this flower to their beloved persons when the flower is blooming. As an conclusion, I describe some photos of Padauk flower in this post.
