Hello Steemians,

Remixes and mashups are an art form that often suffers from the less desirable side effects of copyright law, fortunately that doesn’t stop a variety of artists from getting creative with other people’s creative property.

My favorite contemporary example of this is Neil Cicierega’s work. He mixes and matches the most improbable tracks, and the result is funkier that you could ever imagine. Sourcing his samples everywhere, from commercials to a ridiculously wide range of music from all walks of life. In my opinion he is one of the most exciting mashup artists active nowadays.

It’s possible that you may have hear about Neil's work in the past.

In 2001 he created Animutation, a web-based computer animation characterized by unpredictable montages of pop-culture multi-media, often times in a foreign language than the targeted audience of viewers (Vaporwave’s grandaddy anyone? lol).

In 2003 he uploaded a pair of Flash animations on Newgrounds originating Potter Puppet Pals, that would later resurfaced in the form of a live action series on Youtube.

Since 2003, Cicierega has released 9 studio albums under his musical project Lemon Demon, 3 mashup albums under his own name, a (“Windows 95 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks”) satirical blog, and a couple of video games, Icon Architect 1.0 and Monster Breeder.

Fun Fact: All Star by Smash Mouth seems to be Neil’s favorite song, it is sampled many many times over the course of his 3 mashup efforts, hilariously priceless.
