Bucky Talks - Curating, Sliders and PAL Discord
A couple of minutes from the ocean's edge.
I put on my lab-coat and did some experiments. I used steemvoter.com to see what results I would get by upvoting some consistent whales vs. consistent minnows. The results will astound you!! (click bait hahah) Actually it was not that astounding :) I found that giving a 100% upvote to a good minnow post yielded better $$ returns than a 100% upvote on a high payout whale post. So by supporting excellent minnows you will be helping them and you will be getting better payouts. If anyone has insight into this please share :)

I am currently at around 430SP. At 500 I understand I will get a slider to help my curating. I can't wait!!!! My workflow for curating has me browsing Steemit.com until I find an interesting post. Then I copy part of the URL and go to Busy.org and paste it in. I then use the slider in there to give the amount of vote I want. (Thanks @juliakponsford) It is a painful process and find do not curate as much as I would like because of it.

It's good when you get the slider, much easier to manage your voting power but of course then you get the guilt over how much to vote!

im still trying to figure out how to vote with the slider. I'd rather upvote minnows, but there are a lot of minnows who have no voting power, so to a certain extent i try to also care for borderline dolphins in hope that i get the one vote on a post so i earn more than a dollar or two. its upsetting when i see people who came into the pond after me getting popular votes yet write crap, while people who have great content and have been here months but have low readership getting pennies. I'd love to be able to take popularity out of the equation. There are tons of Curie posts that many people ignore.
Thanks for the input, my good friend Bunny. I totally agree. It is disheartening to see great content not get rewarded and utter-crap-o-la get $100+. Oh my. I did find that placing 100% upvote on people with $3 posts resulted in as much or more return than 100% on a whale's $100 post. Hmmm
registered. but whether i make 3c or 2c return its' all the same to me, i will support minnows with that 100% upvote, and i'll also comment and support whales if their content is good. i try to make this my sole consideration.
This is exactly what I do. I have several dolphins and whales I like to follow. I comment on them when I have something I think is worthwhile to say and I will give them a very low % upvote. But I put my 100% upvote into minnows. My point in this post is that that approach seems to be supported by them math behind the upvoting. Nice to see.
I think I am missing something...what is this slider and how does one get it? Sorry. Newbie-itis.
No problem @cecisastor. Common question. When you reach 500SP in your Steemit account you will be given an upvote slider. This is a little slider that will show up whenever you click the upvote arrow. It will let you choose how much percentage of voting power you would like to give that particular upvote. Below 500SP all your upvotes are 100% which means you have a very limited number of votes you can cast each day. With the slider you can lower it to whereever you like and get 100s of votes each day if you like :)
