Friday, 31 August 2018 was Episode 4 for THE SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTIST, a great line-up of guests and a lovely time had by all. The MSPWaves simulcast Re-broadcast here on Viewly

SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTIST Episode 4

TygerTyger ( @tygertyger ) & Davood Faramarzi ( @davidfar ) opened our show with their collaborative tune called, 'Do Not Make the Rabbit Wait'. Tyger Tyger and Davood have conceived of a music video and spoke of recruiting both @dvine and even @jeffleinwand, who later appeared in this episode, as the rabbit. On further conversation we realized we cued the original version and we immediately corrected our mistake by playing the version including Davood's edits and accompanying vocals. Afterwards we spoke of completing the casting for the proposed music video. In her last minute on the show, she promoted her One Project, a 'chain tape' modeled after Kevin Godley's 1990's project one world one voice, her remake is currently in the casting phase of the project.

Segovia aka @elbrujo presented his tune, 'A Trip To A Lounge' at the time having a 'mystery collaborator'. A contest ensued to guess the mystery collaborator and no one was able to take the two Steem prize by guessing correctly, though we did follow through and donate two Steem in the name of 'no one' to @pennsif 's A Dollar A Day Steemit charity. While many mentioned they how loved the tune, guesses included, @davidfar, @asonintrigue , @beat5e8 , and @seveaux but it ended up Segovia ( @elbrujo ) layed some drums over this Blue Haze sample (A song by Alan Parker & Alan Hawkshaw from 1977) and it was revealed in this episode the 'mystery collaborator' was Zig of @onemedia who added guitar, vibraphone, and tenor sax to the tracks Segovia originally produced. Segovia ( @elbrujo ) is looking at many collaborations, so many he's at a quandary of which direction, but we all agreed, he's bound to create work we all will admire due to his maturity beyond his years, inquisitive nature, and broad and deep musical background.

Lilly Wilton ( @lillywilton ) presented to us her tune, "Devil's Bride" First thing she mentioned acting and her love of Comicon Cosplay. We talked of her residence in Manhattan, her love of city life, but also a need to get some time in nature, including views from the new Hiline Park in Manhattan. We had a lot of fun commenting about incidental noise from her neighbor. Then onto her tune we mentioned the noteworthy Faustian theme and her process of refinement and delivery of the narrative in songwriting, and how the open tuning lent itself to a Celtic lute sound and the mystical vibe. We're looking forward to bringing her onto the show next week in a show featuring #openmic participants.

Jeff Leinwand ( @jeffleinwand ) presented a collaboration with Steemit drummer @tontin , a tune called, Ionic Funk Featuring Tontin named after the sampled voice from a physics lecture. Before playing the tune we spoke of the spontaneity of 'jamming out' that is, how Jeff is incorporating more improvisation into his creative process. Then after hearing the tune, we first mentioned how much the bass playing reminded us of Stanley Clarke, and how Jeff arrived at that sound, without being intimately familiar with Stanley Clarke's style. Finally we made reference to @tontin and his drumming and looking forward to hearing more collaborations that both @jeffleinwand and @tontin are diving into these days.

LFO-ONE ( @bushradio ) brought to our ears his tune he recorded a few years back, "Sweet“ a Berlin style techno piece created mostly with his favored synthesizer, The Spectralis. He also spoke of the modulation and effects heard using the mixer "as an instrument" with bringing sound in and out of effects processors, and in and out of the final mix in a spontaneously creative way. We were all taken away by the musical journey the piece took us on, and he told us how his playing in the studio achieves this effect.

Darren Claxton ( @darrenclaxton ) played his tune, "Thorny Waves“ live for us. We spoke of the wide variety of musical perspectives the three hosts of Spotlight On The Artist bring, and the theme of Darren's tune being one of finding solace through times that could be perceived as bristling. Afterwards we talked a bit more of open tuning and his use of the guitar technique of fingerpicking and playing harmonics.
