Mono-color-sepia || SnowdropssteemCreated with Sketch.

I kept moaning about Spring not coming and now, when it's finally here, I forgot to write about the first flower of the year: the snowdrop. I will rectify this mistake using monocolorsepia tag created by my dear @erikah as an opportunity to share some photos. 🙂

The snowdrops, or Galanthus, is a genus of plants in the family Amaryllidaceae (this is the family of amaryllis, daffodils but also, onions and chives). The Galanthus genus is a small one, about 20 species so this is one reason for which snowdrops are so special.

Being the first flower that blooms (many times finding its way out through the white layer of snow), the snowdrop is a symbol of hope. Also, it is a sign of something new that is about to appear. And a sign of confidence.

Yes, the snowdrops are beautiful and bring hope however they can harm our pets (cats and dogs) due to the phenanthridine alkaloids contained by the leaves, stems and bulbs. They have a moderate toxicity but it's still recommended for our furry friends to stay away. 🙂

Now... What photo did you like and why?

Check out the challenge started by me and @erikah, SeasonChallenge. We would love to learn about your impressions towards the Spring (these being the theme until 3rd of June).

I love this tender flower as it is truely messenger of the spring. Good to know it can harm our pets. I did not know that. I think the coloured is the one I would choose.

Thank you, my dear. The color version is my favourite too. 🙂

You know, tnere are always snowdrops growing in front of our block and that little garden faces north. Hardly many flowers can grow there but snowdrops always will.

Beautiful flowers! And I learned a lot from your post. I had better not bring them into my house because my cats eat cut flowers!

Thank you, @jayna.
Yes, better keep them away. The photos are from my garden where I have snowdrops but cats don't find them attractive. When I brought some inside (they do smell divine), the situation was different. I had to keep the vase on a high shelf. 😂

Same! I have one indoor/outdoor cat. She never eats flowers in the garden. But she and my indoor cat both eat cut flowers in a vase. I wonder why!

Well, the cut flowers must be something new for the cat and she is tasting them so she could familiarise with them. Cats are like babies, they need to taste everything.
Another explanation would be the boredom but I don't think this is applicable in our case. I mean...they would trash the house not just the flowers. 🙂

I love the sepia-toned noire treatment of the last photo. It makes the composition even more artistic.

For my own homage to Spring, I’m actually working on a time lapse series of photos of the blooming trees in my yard. It will be a few weeks in progress. I’m photographing them each day around the same time as they bud and flower.

Thank you, Denise. I'm glad you like them.

Looking forward to see your time lapse serie. I love the blooming trees so I'm sure I will also love your work.
What trees are you planning to include?

There are two crape myrtles in my backyard and another tree (I’m not sure of type) in my front yard.

The myrtle trews are amazing when in bloom. I cannot wait for the time lapse. 🙂

It’s going to be a while on the crape myrtle – they don’t bloom until summer.
